telders's Journal, 01 August 2020

It continues to be a struggle while quarantined with the pandemic and struggling with balance issues because of spinal stenosis. Additionally, I can no longer do chair yoga or low impact aerobics for the same reason.
At 83, I know how dangerous it would be to put on weight...but I've gained four pounds since I returned from Paris last November. I know it sounds imppossible with all the great Parisian food and wine, but I actually lost two or three pounds in Paris, from all the walking. Now, I have trouble walking very far without getting exhausted.
I am trying to focus on vegetables, fish, chicken and avoid rich foods. I do remember that it has been worse. After my late husband died in 2009, I went from 143 to 159 in about three or four months. I know it was all the meat loaf and mashed potatoes that I continued to make and consume...that was his favorite meal.
Anyway, wishing good luck to all the aging women who continue tp try to hold the line during these stressful days. I continue to try self-hypnosis and reinforcement of positive thoughts.
132.5 lb Lost so far: 1.5 lb.    Still to go: 7.5 lb.    Diet followed poorly.
gaining 0.2 lb a week

Carol655, Yes, it looks as if we have a similar weight history. My problem is that my spinal stenosis has caused me to lose three inches in height...so I have become barrel-shaped as I shrink. The fat and muscle have all gone to my middle and my waist has disappeared. This has happened gradually over the past 10 years. It's devasting to try to put on a bathing suit and get into the pool at my senior living complex. I have had weight issues since puberty, but at 5 foot, 4 inches, it didn't look so horrible. At 5 foot, 1 inch, and with posture affected by stenosis and gait impacted by neuropathy and muscle spasms in my left leg, my balance has been affected to. At 83, I try to maintain a youthful attitude, but it hurts me not to be so physically active as I've been all my life. You are going great guns on your weight loss. Where do you live? Are you in a part of the country affected badly by the pandemic? I am in Orange County, CA, which has been on national news for its protests of social distancing and face masks. I remain careful and have only been to outdoor patio places to eat in the past month, after nearly four months of eating at home alone. I have a few friends I meet and my son and d-in-l or brother and we wear masks and stay six to eight feet apart. xox

I am in Columbus Ohio and due to health issues I have been restricted to my room. I am 5 2 but partly because i have used a walker for years, I am hunched too. I appreciate your post. Sometimes I feel like I need to put a sign on my back. It seems that if you don't have any outward signs of illness people just push you aside. All that said, I am still lucky. I was homeless for several years and so I will not complain about what I have now. I wouldn't mind a few extra dollars. BE SAFE
