I think I've finally got this effort going. Trying to follow the doctor's orders has been a real challenge. My aim is to stick to the 1900 calories a day that Slim Fast suggests, but without using the Slim Fast products (too full of sugar) and sticking to three meals a day. For the first few days I was so hungry when I got home from work that I couldn't control my eating at dinnertime. But the last couple of day have been much better. I still need to have something to eat as soon as I get home to hold me over while cooking dinner. I've found having half of a can of soup at lunchtime and the other half when I get home works well and only costs 100 calories or so. I've been completely off sweets for the past week and I don't find myself craving them, so that's good. I hope all of this is getting my blood sugar down to a less scary level.
