Maybe you need more calories if you're going to be that active?

I agree with Socolova.. since you are burning that many calories, your body--my theory- is in starvation mode-- and is trying to "protect" you-- also since you are working out so much-- the weight might also be from your muscles being toned up...
I COMPLETELY understand your frustration.. but keep going, keep eating right.. no matter what the scales say...

^^this. I third more calories. 1200 is the bare minimum that a human should eat. Working this hard and eating so little will end up counter productive. You're body will start to rebel and other things will start to happen, such as hair loss and brittle nails. Please eat more calorie nutritionally dense foods

hi mardee! if it were straightforward we would all be at our goals already . .. . . you are doing great! i know you don't want to increase your calories too much, but 50-100 calories per day might do it, or just taking your 1200 / day and having high / low days throughout the week. I believe your body is getting ready for it's next phase: getting more fit! and it'll let go of a few pounds and show you some more muscle soon!

Don't feel bad. I read that Jennifer Hudson said when she does weight training the scale gives her funny number too. Relax probably muscle weight gain.

I was looking at your food log and I see that you do not log all of the food you eat. I wish you did so I could see what kind of a balance of protein, fat and carbs you are getting. Would you consider logging each and every thing you eat to get a better picture of where you are? I'm very compassionate with your frustration. Have you considered having your last meal very early in the day, such as 5PM? This has been working very well for me lately.

It's called "muscle edema". When you start a new workout, your muscles retain water to help them heal. This can show on the scale as a temporary gain, smaller than usual loss or no loss. Google "why the scale lies" for insight. Just keep going and it will go away. cherries or cherry juice is supposed to be good for the muscles and helping them heal.

SUZI161 is right. "Why the Scale Lies' is a great article to explain why you see increase - wait a while and your body will catch up with you!

Thanks everyone lots of great input! Suzi thanks for the insight into muscle edema I will research that more. My diet for the past month has been 50 grams of protein via protein shakes with 1 banana and spinach and assorted spices i.e. turmeric, cinnamon, dandelion root, and milk thistle, beet powder, 1 T chia, 2 T psyllium, 2T protein powder (organic soy) Stevia, and homemade unpasteurized low fat almond milk. I drink up to 64 ounces but typically 32ish. For dinner I have 10-12 cups of vegetable salad with juice of a lemon, 1t of bragg amino acids, and a T of EV Olive oil. My big splurge is about 100 calorie brewed decaf coffee in the morning. I'm not hungry and I feel mentally and physically alert. So although I have hit another wall I will continue to press on and finish this race. once I start eating a diet that changes in variety I will do my journal entries again. For my life at this time eating this pre-planned menu is easy and thoughtless. Thanks again Tulip, Suzi, Mrs Mole, Socolovo, Lovely, Alex and Hoosier your comments and support are genuinely appreciated. Mardee

The reason ( Perhaps ) is twofold. Your carbs MIGHT be too high. You exercise is great and your caloric intake is very good. However, because you are so high in carbs your body is burning those carbs instead of fat for energy. If you are interested check out NuSi and Low Carb Triathlete. I would be very interested in hearing your review. You have done a wonderful job so far now you just need to fine tune. Best of Luck
