Good morning. Interesting afternnon for me yesterday, ended up in urgent care for a bad allergic reaction. They gave me a steroid shot and Rx for prednisone which I am hesitant to take. Actually, I prolly won't. Ive been on it before years ago and my sister had quite an experience with oral steroids, so if I can avoid it I am going to.
I've suddenly been having some allergy symptoms crop up the last couple weeks. Out of the blue itching of hands or feet, then hives when I tried a new shampoo, and again one day mowing. Yesterday I mowed some high grass and had a rapid reaction, broke out in hives head to toe. It was scary, as it was everywhere, solid red in large areas, even in my scalp. So i rushed into the shower and went in. Appt with my regular physician who will likely set me up for allergy testing. Hoping this doesnt go the way my sister's experience went. She ended up severely ill for many months, never having had an allergy before either, just out of the blue.
Just started seeing some progress on the scale again, really hope this steroid shot doesnt negate recent losses.
All that said, hope everyone has a healthy and happy day. Be careful out there, it's a jungle!

Gosh I'm glad your okay. That's freaky that it just came on like that. I think I would also be hesitant on prednisone unless I really needed it, had it as a teen and it caused my initial weight gain.

Thank you Imortal. Yeah it had me pretty freaked out lol. I'm not taking the Prednisone. That's nasty stuff. Bad enough I had to have the shot, but at that point I had to. All under control for now.

Me too! I don't want to take steroids. I'll find out more after my appointment the 13th .. I hope that's not a Friday .. 😳😆

Thank you morticia! I'm finding that out. Only allergy I've ever had has been sulfa drugs. Till now. Hope you don't have them too bad.

Diana, thank you! It was, bc all of a sudden I was covered and I was remembering what happened with my sister some years ago. I have an appt the 13th.

Holy smokes that was scary for you. When i was 24 i had such a rough time. All of a sudden my eyes were burning and watering and i was so itchy and my nose would not stop running. Had allergy testing done and out of the blue i am now allergic to my horse, my dog, my cat, the grass, dander pretty much everything. It lasted less than a year but have been left with allergies to my animals still tho nothing like that first year. They wanted me to get rid of all the animals and move as i lived in a guest house on a lake that had large, swampy grass around it. I did move a few months later so probably part of what helped heal me up a bit. Wish you good luck. Prednisone is a wonder drug but with really bad side effect of weight gain. At least for me. They didnt give it to me back then i cant remember what was given.

i had a similar situation recently with regular allergies. my face looked like someone threw me down the stairs. i still have most of the rash and hives on my hand, but thank goodness my face is MOSTLY normal. I've been on steroids for a month plus an antibiotic as well.
good luck. i think this pollen season is just out of control.

My sister died about 8 months ago from lots and lots of long term auto immune issues including intractable UTI. She has always had lots of cats, but was down to one at the time of her death. She lived in a nice, small apartment. The doctor felt that a MAJOR part of her auto immune issues was from LONG term exposure to her cats. Her death was actually attributed to untreatable urinary tract infections and autonomic nervous system fail. . She was an excellent housekeeper but that continual hair and dander contaminated everything including toilet paper and toilet seats. He felt her system had just become overwhelmed. It was an absolutely hideous death.

Kenna was this the sister who also suffered from many years of obesity which also caused many health issues? Sorry, im not sure if i have you confused with someone else on that part.

My brother and I developed cat allergies when we were about 25. I thought I was going to have a respiratory arrest after about a 15 minute exposure to her cats—- many years. Ago.
