Diets aren't all about willpower. They are about restraint though.
If you have "trigger foods", sure, avoid them if you must. But, it's potentially setting up an imaginary "fruit of temptation" and then feeling sinful and guilty when you've broken your own, self-imposed code.
No one else is responsible for your actions - JUST YOU. If you gain weight, all the excuses ultimately point back to YOU and your decisions (barring illness or medical conditions). If you lose weight... same thing - all your choices lead to that.
In essence, a diet isn't a matter of avoidance, it's a matter of making good choices. YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE. No one forces you to eat anything. If they do guilt you into eating more than you want/need, firmly say, "no."
Your goals are for YOU. Your results are YOURS alone. Time to earn them.

If breaking a cycle and finally dropping that same 5, 10, 25 pounds you lose and re-lose every month/year is what you want, you've got to do 3 things:
(1) CLEARLY define your goal.
(2) Create a logical and realistic plan.
(3) Execute. And continue to execute without fatigue.
Every day; Every meal; keep this goal as your mission. DO NOT WAIVER! When faced with a choice, don't get all wishy-washy and start compromising.

STAND FIRM IN YOUR DECISION and stick to your goal. Eliminate even the OPTION of the choice to sabotage... just ONLY do the right thing to achieve your goal.
You CAN do it! You have the power inside TO DO it! And you WILL DO it if you use FS as a support and motivational tool instead of a place to seek solace and justification for poor choices.
