That works when we pay attention to what we are eating and tasting... mindless munching, especially in front of the tv, counteracts those natural cues. When I take the time to thoroughly chew my food and put my fork down between bites, my tummy has time to send the signals to my brain to say it's full. Otherwise, I can end up eating twice as much and wind up feeling overstuffed after I've finished. I guess the point is.... listen to your body : )
