tlowife's Journal, 07 October 2022

Since 9.21 I've lost over 80#. My Dr is over the moon. My numbers are great A1C 5.4 chloresterol 123. Bmi down from 46.3 to 32.2. total body fat % is about 35%. you would think I'd be over the moon..and I am.. but I am miserable. I look like I have aged 15+ years, I have lost my boobs and my butt (which I have always loved), my bottom went from a 22/24 to a 10 and my top from a 24/26 to 12/14, and i look like a mushroom, cant fit any pants other than yoga cause my middle dosent match my bottom, my feet were always a 8.5/9 depending on type/brand.. but shoes I already own are loose and my feet slide around in them, I ache. I ache. I ache. when I weighed 270 my joints, legs and knees did not hurt.. now it's constant, my hair is so thin.. I've lost half my volume, I have to clean brush daily if not 1x while I'm brushing it, I have lost my flexibility.. at 270 I could do a split.. now I can't even get half way there.
Don't get me wrong I'm extremely happy to have lost the weight. I'm 27# from my goal. Hopefully by the end of the year, but I thought I'd at least have the confidence I did 80 pounds ago. I look in the mirror and want to cry. My double chin is a turkey neck and me and my staffy are competing for largest hanging jowels.
I have been with the same man since I was 15..33 years. I don't want him to look at me let alone touch me because of all the nasty skin... everywhere. arms, thighs, stomach, my flat saggy butt and deflated boobs that when I was a d were amazing..now barely a b and staring at my toes.

I can't be the only person who feels like this. 😕

I'm so sorry you feel that way. I do want to see the advice here. I'm terrified of that happening (and it for sure will). All I can do is send you hugs and hope it makes you feel better. 💗

yep, welcome to my world, we're the same weight except I'm 10yrs older so even saggier, ugh. It's frustrating and I feel the same around hubby as you do with yours. But, we've worked hard at this and am more happy at this weight. I wish the skin wasn't so, well, you know. We should learn to love ourselves no matter what the scale says or how the skin fits (Men in Black movie - the bug guy's skin lol). Let's be happy we're in one-derland and live for today because no one knows what tomorrow brings. Our men love us no matter what we look like because we're awesome women!! Fake it till you make it!

We are within 5# weightwise. I have lost 108# in the last 3 years. Saggy Baggy elephant look was in at my house as well. I have been lifting weights and doing water aerobics since April. The skin is tightening and the muscle tone is improving. Unfortunately our skin is like a balloon, it is never going to be 20 year old taunt and smooth again. It was going to lose elasticity as we age even if we were never overweight. Do what you can to tone your muscles and skin care. Healthy and Happy are age defying. Attitude is sexy, love your new body in progress. Be Proud of your accomplishments but realize that you did not do the damage over a short time. Give your body time and TLC. Never going to be younger, just better. Give your husband credit for Loving you, not just for what is on the outside and Love Yourself.

I feel your angst. Mother Nature can be a real pain. I wish my skin still snapped back too. Luke my dermatologist told me, "A bit of extra weight is God's filler". But I'll never feel bad enough about myself to wear spanx❣️

TY for the encouragement, I appreciate it. I do love me.. but not enough to convince myself that 20# of extra skin is okay. it's not. it prevents me from getting properly dressed, restricts me from wearing anything other than sundresses and yoga pants, it is uncomfortable, and painful from hanging (even worse when exercising). let alone looks 1000x worse than when I was larger. There is no amount of toning, exercise, creams, collagen, or ulttherapy that will make enough difference to help my issues. I see a very expensive set of surgeries in 2023. I love me enough to know that not spending the next 25 years, as it gets worse as I age and cause sores and rashes etc, suffering mentally and physically. goal.. hit goal weight, schedule surgeries for may thru July 23. I'll make sure to post before and afters.

I wish we would show younger people some “after” pictures and caption them with something like — in order to prevent the after picture you must first prevent the before picture.

losing weight now at 52 and during menopause is way diff from losing it when I was younger. the collagen's gone, I have wrinkles under my neck, I look haggard... ish. But I am noticing that my skin, although slow, is starting to catch up in some areas. I guess there will be some very loose stuff - my whole skin is baggy like the saggy baggy elephant's skin. I have loose skin on my legs, my calves, god knows arm flaps... but it is slowly normalising again. Like, VERY slowly. Find what you can to support your skin so that it can slowly reduce. as to hubby; don't forget you're still soft and smooth and gorgeous in the dark. :D

Don’t be too hard on yourself. I sincerely hope you find ways to feel better.

Hang in there!!! My dad is in his mid 50s and recently lost 50+ lbs by watching what he ate and getting really into hardcore hiking/walking and running. He looked like he gained about ten years with all of the newly unnecessary sagging skin—BUT NOW MANY OF THOSE WRINKLES HAVE SHRUNK/elasticity has returned! And he is healthy and able to do the things he loves to do. Don’t give up hope! But, if nothing else, I’m sure your loved ones would rather have a healthy, slightly saggy you than an unhealthy, wrinkle-less one (: <3

Maybe you could add Collagen to your diet. It is good for Skin, Hair, Nails and Joints. If you have time do some research on line. I swear by it. Good luck Tlowife :):):)

I feel your pain. It'll take awhile for the saggy skin to catch up with your weight loss. I've been rubbing organic coconut oil on my tummy and arm sag and I don't know if it's just time or the oil, but the saggy skin seems to be receding. The turkey neck is rough, but I'll go under the knife if I have to for that. Just hang in there, it'll get better!

If you can start doing some weight training. Start off light then build your way up, that will help put muscle on to fill up some of the loose skin, but it won't take the loose skin completely away. Try some swimming to and light stretches to help with your joints. I'm upset I lost my boobs when I lost weight to and my husband always says something about it to, but I rather be healthy and at a healthy weight

I empathize with you. I am only 25 pounds into my 75-100 pound weight loss journey and I am starting to watch myself age. I can usually pass for early to mid 30’s, though I am 43 and I already hate it. In general I hate counselors and think they are FOS, but I finally found someone who while not officially a counselor is helping to to address how I feel about the changes. It’s been so hard to find a balance that improves my health while still keeping at least some of the curves that my husband loves, as I am watching my breasts shrink. In addition to the physical changes, you might consider finding someone to talk to. Even just a trusted friend.

I lost almost 50 lbs and I can also see saggy skin etc . I think that what you eat and exercise has helped me a little but some of it is not going away... For you I hear a couple of things...when you lose a lot of weight, it definitely causes hair loss. Especially if you have deprived yourself of essential nutrients. Have you ever had your thyroid checked? That is another cause. I also feel that losing/ gaining weight can cause emotional issues to come to surface. Counseling may be helpful. You also need to exercise. Your joints may hurt from not enough movement. Lastly I think your best bet is to go see a Dr and mention all your issues so they can evaluate and treat your concerns. Congratulations on all your weight loss and I support you!💜💜

I think many of us can relate. Losing weight only helps certain areas of your life, not everything. I was sick all of the time when I was thin which was most of my life. I caught every virus that went around. Losing weight will not make you younger. It will usually make you healthier. Love yourself warts and all. When you reach my age it's really important.

The last time I got close to this weight, I wound up self-sabotaging and regaining for a couple of reasons. One of them, I'm afraid, was that I got wrinkly and got a floppy, saggy stomach out of the deal since I no longer had the body fat to fill it out and make it smoother (albeit rounder). This time I'm trying to accept that I look like a deflated balloon in spots. Can't say I like it, though. Still -- just keep the end goal and the bigger picture in mind. Saggy skin is better than unhealthy excess weight

Please have your thyroid hormones checked. A lot of what you described could be attributed to thyroid issues.

Loose and crepey skin - what is the cure? I have some also, but not all over. Anyone know what to do?

Congrats on the weight loss. My personal opinion is that it will take time for your body to adjust. Do check in with your health provider, as you should not feel this way. Make sure you take a multivitamin, get iron levels checked, as well as the thyroid as mentioned in another post, and I take a supplement for hair loss - or eat Jello (sugar-free) - no kidding - its the protein in Jello that can help with hair and nails. I lose hair when stressed - surgery usually. It does come back. Treat yourself kindly and do what you can within your pain limits. Saggy skin - plastic surgery - but you may not be able/afford/want to go that route. I'm 67 and treat it as a mark of maturity but you are a lot younger than I am. Best wishes.

Kenna, I sooo here you!! I had a massive wt gain at 16 and even though a year later I lost it the skin issue has hurt my looks and self esteem the last 30 years now. it led to years of yo yo dieting--albeit within the overweight not obese BMI. I finally for health reasons am at a BMI of 21--and the reason i dont slide is due to health reasons and not because I think i look better. I grew up with a mom who still yo yo diets and has probably binge eating disorder. The only good part of this is that with my three daughters I am so mindful of having them have a stable and normal weight and educate them skin is like a hairband--it only has limited elasticity--so never any diets never any binges and -even when they don't feel like it they all have to do two sports--so 2-3x week, nothing militant but no overindulging in sitting watching TV and binge eating.
