I have a lot to learn about eating properly when I'm not at home.

If you know where you are going, you can look up the nutritional info to help you decide what to eat before you go (unless it's a local restaurant). I know what to eat at most of the fast food places now. At other restaurants, it's basically common sense: broth based soups, salad w/grilled chicken and dressing on the side, etc. Some places I just order a box when I order the meal, and automatically put half a way. Also, don't be afraid to ask for substitutions (baked potato is always better than fries). The more you do it, the easier it gets. You have to get out of that mentality where you say "I am going out to eat, so I can have what I want". I still deal with that mentality sometimes.
