So this is actually great because... after my semi-forced break, I had my best swim (in recent years) to date last night. Thirty minutes in cardio, 877 strokes, heart rate in low 140s, but I swam fast the entire time. Did take an Advil last night because one arm was a little twitchy, but this is the improved performance I wanted. Side note, was RAVENOUS afterward, but did not do the eat all night thing. Ate a quesadilla and my frozen fruit and called it a night. WEIGHT 162.0 lb BMI 32.8 FAT MASS 67.2 lb LEAN MASS 94.9 lb WATER MASS 66.6 lb BONE MASS 4.8 lb MUSCLE MASS 90.0 lb

I use the Apple Watch and this is from an app called Zones. One time cost of $5.

FYI, the built-in health app also tracks some of this information, you don't have to buy anything, this just gives me different insights for what I'm working towards.

really great numbers. dumb question - the apple watch is worn during your swim?

Yes, I have the waterproof one (3-5 are waterproof) specifically because of this. Because I swim in place, there is no other way to measure myself than counting the number of strokes, METs and heart rate. This would also work for anyone using the tether method where you're fastened to the wall on a bungee cord while you swim.

Thanks all, I haven't been this excited since I got the pool. I was looking back at old stats, I started with barely 250 strokes without a rest, who knows what my heart rate was at that point, but I do remember gasping for breath. Since then, I've improved my endurance, almost tripled my strokes, increased the current quite a bit (can't do much more there, mass vs volume of water thing) and I feel good at the end even if I slept like a log. This is what's exciting to me. I feel like I'm almost where I was in high school and that was four hours of pool and gym a day five days a week. I ache more these days, but that just is what it is. Sorry to ramble on, but it really is exciting and BF doesn't share my enthusiasm/obsession with the water. All that said, I'm realistic enough to know I'd get my butt kicked and handed to me if I went up against any real swimmers in high school or college. Reality. I'm just doing my best with where I am in life now.
