Sugar is not my friend. In fact, it makes me feel terrible.
Yesterday, there was an early birthday party at work. I felt pressured because my co-workers were trying to be nice and how do you say no at your own birthday party? What was supposed to be a square of chocolate and a cupcake turned out to be three cupcakes, the square of chocolate, and a brownie that my daughter made. Total, utter, loss of control.
And then it happened. My weeks of being good and saying no to refined sugar sent my body into rebellion. I won't get into details, but let's just say it hurt. Everywhere. The bloating was terrible and made me miserable. So - next time I don't care whose feelings I hurt.
I incorporated my new found knowledge at today's baby shower. I ate good food before arriving. I limited myself to some fresh fruit and a single mini quiche. I said no to the cake. No to the weird apple/whipped cream/snickers concoction. No to the 5 tiny vegetable strips sitting in cup full of ranch. And I did well.
Lessons in life are repeated until learned. Let's hope I have learned this one.
