Today is my 57th birthday - and today I acknowledge that I have gained about 3 1/2 lbs since my last weigh-in. Not great, but not tragic, either. At least part of it is my attitude, which lately seems to be "I don't care," which is really not true. But I think something else is going on as well. I took my measurements, and they haven't changed - and that includes body fat percentage! It's 37.9%, which isn't good, but there's more to this story. At 147.5, 39.9% equals 55.9 lbs of body fat (YUCK!). But at 151, that equals 57.2 lbs, which is only 1.3 lbs higher. So, if I've gained 3.5 lbs, but only 1.3 lbs is body fat, that means 2.2 lbs is something else - maybe muscle growth? I mean, if it was water retention, wouldn't my waist, hips & thighs be bigger instead of the same? I HAVE been running, doing a little weight-lifting, plus there's all this house cleaning, packing up & throwing out stuff to get the house ready for sale. I've been complaining that apparently such work doesn't burn calories, but maybe it does help build muscle? I don't know - I can't really call this a win, but maybe it's a draw instead, LOL!!!
