I found this photo quite interesting. We've all heard the 'a pound of fat weighs more than a pound of muscle' silliness. I thought I'd find something that would show the difference in volume to weight. The fat looks disgusting. The muscle tissue looks... hand me that frying pan, would you please?

Tika has turned into a real sweety. When she comes to you it's almost as though she can't get close enough to her. She is a wonderful dog. At a year and a half, she's starting to come out of the puppy stage. She smart. Sometimes that's a bad thing. :)

Just losing one pound if fat would help someone look so much slimmer, wouldn't it? I like that comparison. That picture really makes a statement.

It's also a very good reason to measure yourself as well as weigh. If you're rebuilding old muscle tissue, it can come back quickly making it look like you're stalled when you're not.

It's too bad that it's a lot harder to put on the muscle than the fat.

Muscle is more metabolically active than fat, too, so you burn more calories with a pound of muscle than with a pound of fat. (here's one citation supporting that claim :-) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC296885/) It looks better, AND it means you can eat a little more!

THANK YOU - It is my all time pet peeve when I see a person write, "Muscle weighs more than fat." Typically, it is the Oreos, Cheetohs, and soda - not muscles! Bawahahahaha!
|
Tika looks fabulous, too!

Tika is fabulous. Thank you. I agree Oreos, Cheetos, and soda outweight muscle. It's obvious because eventually, they do.

When people write that muscle weighs more than fat, can't we just in our own minds add "(per equivalent volume)" or change "weighs more than" to "is denser than" since we all know that's what they mean?

Well I did say if we packaged human flesh like we do animal flesh we'd be cannibals.
