bridgetbrannon's Journal, 23 June 2009

Yesterday my weight shot up but I weighed today and weighed 3 lbs less. I am addicted to the scale. I keep telling myself to weigh once a day or less. I only record morning weigh ins but weigh lots during the day. I don't know why I do it. As I recorded earlier, I am coming off pain medication that has been prescribed for more than 2 years and it's causing some pain. Of course it is. I made the decision to try to manage the pain with holistic medicine so I could be healthier and feel better so I shouldn't complain but - well I can't really describe it. Even though I take it like prescribed, my body has become dependent on it. I will have pains and have to manage them but it will be worth it. Anyway, not so hungry today but still can't sleep. Stayed up until 7 am then slept until 10 am.

Don't worry about the scale addiction, revel in it. I weigh myself in the morning, at night, before and after a workout, before and after a shower, just to see how much I gain/lose in water weight from different activities. The painkillers sound rough. Have you spoken with a doctor about the way he recommends to get off of them? They might have a method or some other technique to make quitting less painful and a little easier.

What is causeing the pain? Did you know that if you take pain killers too long, the chemistry in your brain can get screwed up and the receptors will read the pain killers as pain. Staying off of them for a while will help the brain chemistry to rebalance itself.

I am doing the same as you, everytime i pass the scales jumping on it, I record my morning weight as thats the one I started with. Its the water we drink during day hat makes us look as if we have an increase, But think Im losing the plot a bit, now Im talking to the scales before I get on it, warning it to record a good weight loss, So So Sad

just rereading your profile, you've had a tough few years, so your body is keeping on to everything to heal itself from the inside out, so do you think 60 lb by Nov is too much, esp as you have a small little girl. Reason is thats only 20+ wks away, not a long time to try lose weight that took you 2+ years to put on. And being on painkillers you need to eat something to keep stomach lined.Im like you also would love lose 60 lb at least and before Xmas,(and then I will only reach the weight you are now) could you rethink the amount of weight you need lose, and the timeframe. Think you are doing so great esp with so much pain

Thanks everyone. Deserve Victory: Yes I have researched the pain med. and that is why I asked doc to take me off. Probably never should have been on them this long anyway but he is not very thorough. He is taking me off of them slowly but I decided I could do it faster and cut my dose in half. After the first day I wasn't so bad. Previously I was in accupuncture therapy and it was helpful for my leg and back pain. After my surgery I was prescribed pain med. From there it is a long story b/c I got an infection and they didn't catch it until it spread. Carmel : Thanks for your help. I am doing better. Yeah I probably need to drop it to 40 lbs.
