amberly's Journal, 28 November 2013

Dear Journal,
I am so confused that I exercise really hard 6 days a week and try to eat a healthy diet for the most part. I have cut out diet soda down to just on the weekends when out to dinner, and I do occasionally throughout the day have a few handfuls of chocolate chips, but the rest of the day I eat greek yogurt with fruit and some honey. I can't imagine why I am having a hard time losing the weight. I'm not so much worried about the weight as I am the inches. I understand that I've been doing a lot of weight lifting and am building considerable muscle to what I had before, but it is not my intent to have my pants fitting tighter!! I want to be toned, but not bulky!! Today is Thanksgiving, and I am going to go to the gym and get a good workout in and try to be really good on my caloric intake today!! No bingeing!!

When you are already at a low weight and don't have much to lose, it can be very hard to get those last pounds off. It's the diet, that gets off the pounds. Exercise is important, but weight loss is mostly about diet. You have days where your caloric intake is very high and those "handfuls of chocolate chips" and "try to eat healthy during the week" can cause you to maintain. You have to determine how important it is to get to that number on the scale or if it's more important to lose fat and be lean and strong. I was doing the chocolate chips thing to and had to stop. Way too many calories are added. My downfall is the bites, licks and tastes. I am trying to put a stop to it. When I do, I lose (funny that huh, lol!). Check out Oxygen magazine for some great information on diet and exercise. You might focus on getting lean and losing the fat (although I am sure you already look great). You might tighten up the diet till you get to goal and then add things back in to maintain. You also have to make sure your goal weight is sustainable. You want it to be sustainable so that you can still enjoy your life. Great job on exercising on Thanksgiving. I am going to workout in a minute to. You are doing great. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
