My scale must be a woman because she can't make up her mind. I can get on the scale five different times in a row, and end up with a different weights displayed on the scale each time. Are household scales typically so fickle? How do you reconcile these differences during a weigh in? Take an average? Take the weight that displays more than once? Take the lowest weight? (yup, that last option is my personal favorite)

You need a better scale. I bought a used balance beam scale from a doctor's office, no batteries.

Female scale 😁
I've noticed my scale has a memory. If i weigh myself, drink some water and get right back on it, it will give me the exact same number... And the last adjustment it like jumps into it. So i trick it with my foot to think there was someone super light on it to reset the memory.
If your scale difference is minimal say within half a pound fluctuations from highest to lowest, i would say it's just trying it's hardest to be more precise than it actually is. If bigger than that, i would absolutely return it as faulty...
