Just goes to show the different methods on here. I am 100% with you on the "Don't take the first bite". But I have a Sister who thrives on the "Take just a little" theory. Just like t-shirts, there is no one size fits all approach.

Yes. Black bear with 25% pork to give it a bit more fat. No hormones. No injections. Never mind grain - this one is a huckleberry fed bear.

I thought black bears were endangered? Maybe not in Canada.

Black bears aren't considered endangered anywhere that I know of. Grizzlies are far closer to that situation. Brent. Black bear is actually part of the pig genus. It's darker in colour and denser than pork.

I thought they were too msbuggirl....so I looked it up, the US-FWS says some species of black bears are "threatened" meaning they have the potential of becoming endangered in the future, it also said they were "threatened" because they have the same appearance of an animal that is actually endangered (idk what other than a bear looks like a bear)...per the WWF the polar bear is also "threatened", the brown bear is the "least concern" whatever that means....

Why bored Soco. Black bears compete with flies for population in northern Canada.

The day before vacation at work....you can probably guess that it's dragging lol....we see quite a few when we're up in the northwoods of Wisconsin, we stay only about an hour south of the Canada border...I think what we are thinking if the Asiatic black bear, those are "vulnerable" the level below endangered...I love being a nerd :)

It said something about black bears in the south (Louisiana and Florida) getting hit by cars a lot...like almost 200 a year...

They figure more moose are killed by trains up here than by hunters. One of the conductor's jobs is to scrape.... You get the picture.

Black bears have become a real problem in South and Central Florida. They raid garbage cans in suburban areas and have attacted several people in the last few months.
"Black bear attacks are on the rise in Florida, warn wildlife officials.
This week, a bear bit a woman's head and dragged her from her garage before she escaped—the second mauling since December. In the latest incident, the woman survived, but black bears in the area weren't so lucky.
On Monday officials killed four adult bears and one young bear captured nearby, believing one of them to be the attacker and calling all of them dangerously habituated to people."

I heard something similar about California. Hunting cougars was banned for a period of time because people didn't like the idea. Once the cougar population exploded and the big cats started dragging off small dogs and other domestic animals, they decided perhaps they should allow the hunting of cougars again.

I am a hunter, so I am always interested in ways to prepare game meat, Venison in particular. Will you share processing tips. I hated the sausage I got from the last processor.

Hi, Sue. I'm a long way from venison country and have never made sausage from it. I grew up on deer meat. Of the ungulates, it is my least favourite - especially the bucks in rut. EW!!! Sorry I can't help you out.
