WriterandPainter's Journal, 29 April 2018

Just wrote on the forum post and now writing it here because I am unclear which gets out to you ...So once again I am making a declaration that I am putting away my scale because I sneak a peek at my weigh all hours of the day and evening ... and that has to stop because I get upset if it goes up and skeptical when it goes down and round and round. It an old dieting habit that has gotten me in trouble before so I am putting it away... Love that you all are out there. I am still unsure how to directly communicate with you all but know that I really appreciate reading your posts and experiencing your support.

My guess is that putting away your scale is a good decision. I weigh on Monday morning, first thing, and that's IT. I have no desire to weigh in-between precisely because of the way it can mess with one's emotions and misplaced feelings of perceived failure. You're gonna have great results, I know it!! 😎🤟

I can’t weigh myself very often either. Seeing it bounce up and down from day to day from wAter is horribly discouraging. It’s derailed me several times. For me just feeling how my clothes feel is a better monitor. Good luck to you.

Your journal entries if left open to comment like this will get out to the most people on the counting apps and on the web version as well. 🤷🏻‍♀️Those of us using the counting apps on our smartphones don’t see forum posts or private message posts from people or challenges. On your scale, sounds like your best idea IS to put it away and make a date with it in a week, or a month to evaluate how things are going. You might also take a full length picture and measurements including neck, arms and legs to give you incentive when the scale isn’t moving. LOL Record them all here in your journal. Hold yourself accountable. If you bite, write. That way you know what has to change. Good luck! 🙋🏻

WriterandPainter>> When I was on Weight Watchers I weighed in at the once a week meeting but I cheated ALL THE TIME at home weighing myself and was constantly disappointed. Sometimes even the once a week weigh in I was disappointed because I hadn't lost anything. I guess I'm just using the same willpower I have for not eating everything in site for not weighing myself except once a week, on Mondays, on the same scale each week. I don't know if that helps you or not. I guess my answer not to do that is just use your willpower!!!

I agree that you should take your measurements once a month to track progress. Logically you know that you can fluctuate 5 pounds easily in a day. Do you think you don't trust your eating plan? Maybe every time you want to weigh you can journal instead to try to understand what your anxiety is about. Trust the process, trust yourself!

Thank you for your comments. Glad {sad?} to hear I am not the only one that makes herself crazy by weighing all the time. You'd think I would know that there are tremendous fluctuations daily given all the diets I tried but once on that scale all common sense leaves me. You all have given me Great Ideas. Not sure I can do writing in a journal instead of weighing just yet but the idea that I can use the same determination I have about being accountable for my food intake to harness my weighing thing is perfect for today. What do they say ONE DAY AT A TIME.

Yep, there is more to life than the scales and you are so much more than your weight. Proud of you for breaking up with the scale.

I think committing to logging everything you eat (as well as your exercise) will allow you to keep yourself accountable.

I weigh once a week.,,peroid...and if I miss ...I wait till the next week. I have a way of life that will hopefully keep me here for the long haul. I am not a slave to the scale.

I started out weighing once a week then I heard the scales calling every day, it’s just heartbreaking because weight goes up and down so now back to once a week. Good decision to put scales away

Well your message is getting out! Go into your login area (WriterandPainter), same area you enter your food intake and in the right hand corner you'll see journal ---->click on it and enter a journal entry --at the bottom of page then click save ----it will then send or broadcast it to us all. :D Good luck with your endeavors. I agree with Tahoebrun, I weigh in once a week - as the app will inform you when to weigh in the upper right hand corner. If you question it, you can do it at your liberty but so far it works out as it does not make for compulsiveness.
