Lotus's Journal, 30 January 2008

I was very naughty on my diet yesterday due to unexpected stress(not that that is an excuse, I wish I wouldn't use food to cope!). My daughter came up sick very quickly and unexpectedly, running fever and she was acting very lethargic and weird and saying her stomach hurt. I freaked and took her to the emergency room, afraid that maybe she ate something bad, had a food allergy, or any number of things. I didn't know what to do, it was too late in the day to get her a regualar appointment, and it was like she was fine one minute and totally out of it the next. It just scared the crap out of me. Well she's ok, we ended up staying at the hospital ALL DAY from 4:30-9:00, which was so miserable, and what they said was that she has a middle ear infection. This sucks. I feel a little dumb for taking her up there, because it is going to cost a LOT, we have no medicaid or insurance and my husband is the only one working. We had all the bills come in this week as well as some unexpected expenses, and we barely scraped up enough to get her some antibiotic. She sure does feel bad, I feel terrible. She was just acting so weird last night, it scared me to death.
When we got home I was ravenous and ate a huge bowl of cereal, followed by several spoonfuls of peanut butter AND a bowl of fat free(but calorie and sugar full!) ice cream and WAY too much candy as well!!
Oh well, it was stupid, but I am going to try to make up for it today. I'm having a light breakfast of yogurt and fruit, and I'm about to go do an hour of cardio and some weight training.
Wish me luck, I gotta drag my poor little boo up to the pharmacy today to get her prescription, and I have no heat in my car. It's really cold out right now, I hope it warms up. i also hope I hav enough to pay for it! It's really expensive. If it's over $50 I may have to roll some quarters. I hate it when we are tight on money.
We have had it good for a while, I got a little spoiled.
Anyways gotta go, hope everyone has a great day, I am going to do my best to get back on track, drink water, eat fiber, fruit, veggies, and protein, NO JUNK! or at least not much! LOL!

Wow. It's great to see you rise above your troubles and keep your spirits up. I hope your little one recovers quickly and that your money troubles ease up, too. Sticking to your eating plan is hard at the best of times. You did well under the circumstances. Here's to better days ahead!

OMG, I have been there w/ the child situation. You did the right thing as u never know what is going on inside their precious bodies. Keep your head up and start today fresh, don't look back. Keep up the great work. I hope it all works out at the pharmacy. I know the Walmart here in Georgia(probably everywhere) sells the most common antibiotics for kids/adults for $4.00. You should call b4 u pick her prescription up and check. The doctor could always change it and call it in. Good luck and God bless...

OMG I enteren estimated amounts of everything I remebered eating yesterday, and the numbers are terrible, 3281 calories 81 grams of fat!!! like 561 carbs! Wow what a wakeup call. No wonder I used to have such a hard time, I would do good on my diet for a couple days, then go wild like that one day, back and forth, when I was really depressed, and that was when I gained the weight that I am now trying to lose once and for all. That is so much more than I imagined. I am going to have to be an angel on my diet for the rest of the week!

You did the right thing by taking her to the emergency room b/c it could have been worse. I hope she feels better soon. I love the positive attitude. It's great that you only needed one day to use food as therapy instead of a whole week!

OMG - that must have been terrifying - you definitely did the right thing! You can never be too careful. I'm not surprised your diet went out of the window! You just need to get right back on track and you'll be fine. Hope she's over her infection soon.

Hi Lotus, I think you did the right thing too. Inner ear infections are very scary! A lot of times, the doctor or hospital has prescription samples. Talk to them if you ever have to go again. Just tell them about your hardship and they should be helpful. Also talk to patient/social services at the hospital. Hopefully they can help as well. It's worth a try! Good Luck!
