Last night I worked out with a personal trainer for the first time ever. I only did it because everyone at the gym gets one free session. The instructor asked me what I'd like to work on and I said upper body and core, because I think all my strength is in my lower body. This is what he had me do (I don't know all the proper names but this will at least help me remember for the future):

bench press with free weights (3 reps of 12)
dumbbell row for back muscles(3 reps of 12 on each side)
front raise for shoulders (3 reps of 12)
lateral raise for shoulders (3 reps of 12)
bent over lateral raise for shoulders (3 reps of 12)
bicep curl (3 reps of 12)
cable push down (3 reps of 12)
seated bench pull-in (30)
reverse crunches (30)

Whenever I did the weights he had me use 8 lb at first, then 10, then 12. I did well on everything except the lateral raises (both kind). Apparently I have NO shoulder strength! At least I've got some exercises to work on. I think the biggest perk to having a personal trainer is to make sure your form is correct... he was good about correcting me if I got lazy and didn't do the move properly. I really liked working out with a personal trainer, but it's not something I can afford right now.
