newnbetter's Journal, 26 December 2017

Ok so Christmas is over. We made it. Whew! Now to get ready for 2018. Out with the old and in with the new. I made a HUGE mistake this morning and stepped on the scale monster. I was up AGAIN!!! Absolutely no reason for it. I won’t even say what it was but I will say that I know I did not gain weight. Didn’t lose any either. But the scale is a fickle thing. They say it can fluctuate 5 pounds due to just water. On top of that, I was told yesterday that you can tell I am losing weight. That made me feel good. With such slow progress I can get a little disgusted with myself. So I think one new thing I will do is cherish the NSVs and trust the process. I’m thinking about recording weight Jan 1 and then staying away from it for a while. A month would be best but not sure I can do that long.

Lol. Is really like to throw him. But with my throwing aim I’d probably hit something important- like my foot

I was up 7lbs in two days. I indulged a little for the holiday but at least 6 of that 7 is water weight. I knew i was bloated but weighed in to make sure I got on track immediately.

I recorded my weight this morning, I kept putting it off thinking I would do better, I didn't. Now I've added my gain and I'm owning up to it. I take a lot of meds that make losses slow for me, so having those NSVs really helps to keep me motivated. I hope you find some great motivation and NSVs!!

What is NSV??

NSV = non scale victory

2426girl I think that is the key. Weigh yourself as a tool to stay on track. Not staying on track to weigh yourself. Mars I think that owning up to ourselves is important. I just know I did not eat off plan at all. I ate more than I should but it was green beans, mashed cauliflower and cream cheese. All are fine for my woe. If I am still up in weight on Jan 1 I will record it. But I will also have to re-evaluate everything else as well. I think part of the problem is diet soda. I have been drinking too much of that. I plan to go back to water and tea tomorrow. Thinking about giving up coffee for a while. It has not been tasting that good recently 😟

I'm reevaluating mine as well. Now that I have lost enough to end diabetes I need a plan that is sustainable.

Hi 8 Patty, caught your comment here. Am in the same boat kind of, but still check sugars because I’m still considered ‘diet controlled’ now and go hypoglycaemic much more easily than I did before I became full diabetic and insulin resistant. So while I eat more carbs on average than most on “keto” I also keep my protein values high and use the fat as a limiter for my appetite. Still working it because I recently had stomach and bowel surgeries and they screwed over my eating habits about 20-25 lbs worth. But I can maintain pretty well with a moderate diet. So you might want to follow Egull1 and adjust a week at a time and monitor?

Great idea Sm, I'm afraid of fat lol sounds silly but brained washed susan power diet fad of the '80's fat makes you fat, obviouly just another myth!

I have the same problem 8patty! Tell someone their whole life to count calories and not eat fat...LOL The habit is hard to change!🤷🏻‍♀️

I'm stopping the diet soda as soon as it is all gone from the house. Probably after the 1st week in January. Problem is I really like BEVERAGES and get tired of just drinking water. But in the new year, no soda, no crystal lite, no dairy. I rarely drink coffee or any alcohol. So I'll have a small glass of juice most likely and maybe a cup of tea, otherwise it's WATER in 2018

I know there is something in a diet soda that is bad for me. If I am feeling sick a diet soda will make me feel better. No way that should happen but it is as if I got a shot of sugar. I have developed a taste for la croix. Love the grapefruit flavor and many of the others as well. It is just really expensive when you drink as much as I normally do. But, I drank the last of my diet soda today and as of tomorrow it is water and la croix, sleepy time tea at night and maybe coffee or caffeine tea in the am. I just don’t want those darn caffeine withdrawal headaches. I have enough headaches as it is!

I switched to caffeine free teas, but I still use sweeteners even though they mess with your blood sugar index and insulin index. Anything that is sweet to the tongue will.🤷🏻‍♀️

I was up 7lbs on the 26th, down 2 by the 26th, down another 2 by today, expect to be down another 2 by tomorrow. The carbing up over Christmas caused a lot of bloat. It sucked but IF and cutting out carbs is sorting that out. The real gain was about 1lb. With diligence that should be gone in a week.

Weighing in keeps me honest, motivated and on track. I will record my weight when the bloat subsides, good or bad.
