hkrista's Journal, 11 December 2007

Today is Tuesday! I am five days into the low carb diet. I chose this diet because I am hypoglucemic. I don't need sugar (although I seem to crave it). I did Weight Watchers years ago and lost 62 pounds. I have maintained my weight for the last four years until recently when I seem to have found 15 of the "lost" pounds.

I have learned that as I am getting older (I'm only 34 but still...) my body is not responding the same to the low-fat diets. Low-fat usually means high carbs. Carbs turn to sugar in your body and sugar makes you hungry again. So I eat again...and the cycle continues itself.

I am really enjoying the low-carb eating and I can already tell a difference in the way I feel. I have more energy. I am not hungry as often (which means my stomach is shrinking) and as I cleanse my body of the sugar during this two week induction period; my body will actually stop craving it.

Weight loss? I am not sure how much yet. It's only been five days, but I can tell a small difference in the way my clothes fit. So...that's GREAT!

I would love to talk to some of you low-carbers and get some ideas and recipes from you.

Blessed, Krista

I went low carb back in 2004 and lost all the weight that I wanted to. Over the past year my lost pounds found me as well. I have some issues with medication and yeast that seem to have caused those pounds to come back. I'm working to resolve these issues and have gone back on induction in order to try and start losing these pounds again. Anyway, over the years I have collected a number of low carb cookbooks. My favorites are written by Dana Carpender. She has several that you can find on Amazon.com or at Borders. She has some nice original recipies as well as some de-carbed versions of old stand bys. Check them out, I think you will like them.

I have been low carb for quite some time now, and I too am hypoglycemic. I rarely have any low blood sugar episodes now. Only when my body is going through a change like sickness or monthly evil! And to be honest, I rarely get sick. My husband tells me to take a break from my 'diet', but I just feel so good eating this way, and I know I am healthy that I can't go back to the old way. This is a life time deal for me! I splurge on occasion because it isn't right to deprive onesself of the wonders of life like chocolate cake or cookies, but I don't do that often, and I enjoy every bit of it when I do! Keep very strict to it now, and lose the weight you would like to, then you can play a little more with foods you like that perhaps aren't part of the regimen. It is easier when you live it! Good luck and I look forward to watching your progress! Vicky ^i^

I'm right along with ya! My new love is the Frigo mozzerella & cheddar cheese sticks. I made some yummy beef & turkey meatballs the other night and ate them in homemade tomato sauce (no pasta). They were really good. I have to say my cravings have subsided substantially too and it's easier for me to discipline myself. Also, because I am seeing results, I don't want to stand it its way. GOOD LUCK!

It is great to see how motivated you are. You will feel better after you get rid of cravings. I feel great when I am in control of them. I am slowly posting all my favorite low-carb recipes, so check out the kitchen on here. Welcome!

Krista, you will be amazed at how right you are! To me, the cravings are the "monkey on my back" telling me I need sugar, pasta, bread, etc. It's SUCH a relief to be free of that urge!!! I lost 40 pounds on Atkins and kept it off for 5 years! The doctor took me off of hormone therapy and now it's a little harder to lose. (Also, I tend to make exceptions as though I'm maintaining, when I really want to be losing!) You should be really proud of starting your eating program this time of the year, and you CAN be successful at it!
