wintersmith's Journal, 15 February 2010

So I've started a new diet plan. Still counting calories, but now I'm eating 2600 calories 3 days a week and 1860 four days per week. Cindy was kind enough to recommend this to me and after I did some reading it appears to work for a lot of people. We'll just have to see if it works for me.

I took my third kickboxing class yesterday. I appear to have acclimated to it since I'm not sore at all today, a change from the previous two sessions. I managed to bump the heart rate monitor and turn it off 10 minutes early. However, at that point I was at an estimated 810 kcals burned during the exercise. The previous session was an estimated 910. For a one hour class (and me failing to correctly start or stop the heart rate monitor each time) that isn't bad.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Valentine's weekend (and President's Day if you're lucky enough to have it off)!

Wow that's a lot of calories you're burning. Good for you. I wish there was some way to figure out what I am burning. Do I need a montitor for that?

Cathy, you don't if you want to use an online estimator like this one: http://www.healthstatus.com/calculate/cbc . However, if you use a heart rate monitor you do get more accurate results (at least, according to a couple of reviews I read) since it can calculate exactly what your metabolism should be doing based on your heart rate. It works well for cardio but not as well for strength training (i.e. weights) since you have so many stops and starts.

Thanks Hammer. We'll see how it goes. :)

Good luck with calorie cycling. I tried that before and it worked fairly well. Plus being able to to eat a bit more on the high days is nice. It doesn't feel too much like a hardcore diet.
