Good for you for walking. I know how accomplished I felt when I walked .5 miles. Any/all movement is good for your circulation, so keep at it.

Follow you own plan. You know how you feel. Congrats on the 2 mile walk - you can do it. Strength training with some light weights also will build muscle and increase your metabolism - actually better than cardio.

Agree with Ollie on the cardio, and Richard Simmons sounds great, especially since you had success before :) I break out the Taebo DVD's on occasion because they worked for me before :)

@VJ.......OMG...Taebo! I so remember those videos. I used to exercise with Richard Simmons when I was in high school. He had his own show back then. Love me some good cardio workouts.

Me too @Engeland! Anyone remember Buns Of Steel with Greg Smithy? I still have that, lol. I'm off topic...I do a lot of cardio at home and resistance workout at Curves. I've never been a runner, but am envious of those who do.

I remember 'Buns of Steel" with Jane Fonda in the 70's! Too bad I didn't stick with it! HA!

Right...everything I have read says HIIT and weights is most effective.

Never tried the Jane Fonda one. Those workouts are harder than they look

See? Paranoid and narcissistic people think they are the center of every comment and people are focused only on them when, in fact, no one cares what they say or do.
|
My comments are made to my buddy NY_shelly and no one else here.

I've lost 70 lbs without a minute on a formal cardio machine, just lots of gardening and in winter some weight training. Just a preference, I'm sure I could have speeded things up, but I'm just not a speedy type. Built for comfort (and strength) not for speed.

Hi everyone! Thank you for your comments. It's ok to get into exciting conversation once in awhile. It is how progress is made sometimes. I think the main thing is we all have good intentions with help and encouragement.
I am doing weight lifting 3x a week now b/c I need to build strength and increase my metabolism. And I did recently discover I had abs under all that fat. haha But I do like aerobic activities to feel a good sweat. Something about it is just refreshing...maybe I remember the old days when I was healthy enough to play racquetball, softball, basketball.
The trainer I have said that both weight training and aerobic activities increase metabolism, but in different ways. He is a jujitsu competitor and he talked about his strength and body vs. a body builder. He said a power lifter may not look like much (body type is totally different - more fat on them - but massive legs and arms) and he most likely would not be competitive against them in a power lifting competition. But they do not have the flexibility and endurance that he has for his type of competition.
@Erika good for you on the 70 lbs! How exciting.

Good for you which is why I said earlier HIIT and strength training are the best. HIIT is high intensity interval training during cardio portions of the workout. Which is confusing why another poster attacked for no reason because I was agreeing that some cardio is helpful when I shared in my earlier comment.

There is not one person here talking to anyone but Shelly - except you. If you had know what HIIT was several comments ago, you would have seen I was agreeing with you. Again, STOP directing your sarcastic and personal comments at me. More evidence...
|
Narcissists believe everything is about them. Comments made to Shelly are not about anyone but her. Go back and look - I said, "Right....everything I have read says HIIT and weights is most effective." Perhaps you had no idea HIIT was about cardio? Funny YOU keep commenting about me. I am so flattered.
