Anita Cocktail's Journal, 16 December 2009

Getting up in the morning to go to the gym has been SO HARD this week! I had a great workout this morning and was approached by a trainer offering a free session...I'm considering taking her up on it but I'd really like to find out what the PT rates are. She told me she teaches pilates and yoga which I've been really considering taking up as the gym has classes but I think some individual instruction first would be really helpful.

Still haven't finished Christmas shopping or knitting which is stressing me out a little but thankfully not in the "let me eat a pint of Ben & Jerry's" kind of way.

So, I'm going to confide this in my FS buddies because I know you won't mock me if I'm wrong...I think the boyfriend is working up to proposing. For sure it won't be a Christmas thing but he's been dropping a lot of hints...I'm trying to play it cool so I don't give him any reason to decide against it AND to keep myself from getting stupid excited in case I'm wrong...but truthfully, I'M STUPID EXCITED! This is all the more exciting because from day one of us dating he said he never wanted to get married again but 2 weeks ago when one of his friends asked if we were getting hitched I said no and he said "Could definitely happen." Cross your fingers for me!

Hope everyone is having a great holiday season! Xs and Os!

Oooh, a marriage proposal, how fun!!! Good luck! Ooh, and your doing so good with your exercise. I say take the PT up on the free offer, but realize that he/she is just doing it so you will BUY more! Have a great day.

That's exciting! Lol re not in Ben & Jerry's way. Insofar as the individual session goes, getting individual instruction in pilates will get you results way way faster. In fact, it's VERY hard to understand what you're supposed to be doing unless you get individual classes or very small classes or a super duper attentive teacher. The movements are very subtle. It's all about control and tiny adjustments. It's just too hard for a teacher in a group class to make sure every one is doing things the right way. After doing things both ways, I will say that you'll get more out of one individual class with a good teacher than 20 classes in a group setting when you don't know what's going on. Take it!

Sorry for the overload but I took months of indiv pilates this spring trying to get strong post-baby. Make sure your teacher explains how to get your pelvic floor engaged. It's not so much about the scooping that's happening on the outside as the engagement of the pelvic floor/deep abs on the inside. This will help in both yoga and pilates. Pilates is based on yoga so learning about one will help the other.
