Fasting...I am unsure of this practice but I don't know a lot about it...I read that this is the new fad that you fast for a day then you can eat what you want up to 2000 calories. So, I ask myself do I want to go without today so I can eat what I want tomorrow. I could eat 2000 calories in one meal...between pizza, cheese bread and beer!! I think right now... the more I leave the bad foods alone the better off I will be in the long run...I am focusing on making changes and have faith the results will come.....Be good to yourself!!

There's no short cut to long term health. I recommend this fasting stuff to your maintenance plan. Trust me, if you eat that pizza meal for the 2000 calories, you'll never make it through the fast period. Those carbs are going to put you into a binge that will be difficult to get out of. Of course, these are your choices to make, not mine. Best of luck to you...

do your homework on the different kinds of fasting, then ease into it if you decide it's for you. i do 16:8 fasting (fast for 16 hours, eat only during an 8 hour period) and love it. another popular one is 5:2, which is eat "normally" for 5 days a week, then around 25% of your normal intake for the other 2. fasting isn't a new fad, it's been around for a long time. as @ sarah says, fasting doesn't give you license to pig out on anything during your "feed" days, so be careful. i hope this helps a little. just google "intermittent fasting" and you'll find all kinds of information. good luck!

Here is a link to check out the 16:8 that berley1 mentions. Very informative. I have done some fasting, been around in different formats for a very long time...think Biblical :) I really agree about the feeding portion...you want to give your body real solid fuel when your consuming calories. It needs minerals, vitamins, fats and a good amount of enzymes, etc. to make this a weight loss/burning plan. The Pizza isn't going anywhere, you can have some as a treat later and you'll love it! Take care, you cam accomplish this and more!!

I'm just experimenting with this too (5th day on it) and did a lot of reading about it (the alternate day program). Some folks report that after a few cycles of low calorie "fasting" days (~500 calories) they automatically began eating less on the higher calorie days as they just didn't have the appetite. I'm trying this because I haven't been dealing well with the day after day restrictions but where it can probably really shine is during maintenance, as Sarah1950 pointed out. Evidently a good number of people use it quite well to lose weight, though. You have to go with what works for you - test those waters!

Thanks so much for the information, I have looked into other sites as well but got more confused; however, Becca the link you provided has a wealth of information, which I have saved. I am going to look into this further down the road, I think I would benefit from this during maintenance.
