sonnymac's Journal, 27 March 2016

This morning's brunch was steelcut oats with a little honey and a fried plantain added, 2 hardboiled eggs, 2 slices of whole wheat toast. Also several cups of coffee.

Rode the exercycle 45:30 minutes, 9.1 miles, burning 334 calories.

Another member's journal post got me thinking yesterday about two things, counting calories and folks dispensing what could be construed as giving medical advice.

Here are my thoughts on the subjects. On calorie counting or weighing my food, I don't do it. When I first started my journey I researched the foods that I eat most and got a general idea, combining that with the old-fashioned "stop eating when you feel full" has worked for me.

However as I pointed in my e-book, if you want to calorie count, do it. Whatever works for you is fine.

As far as the medical advice thing, I received that here myself once when I was advised to go against my doctor's orders and just stop taking the Metformin that he prescribed for me to help with my prediabetes. I can't speak for anyone else but I didn't go to medical school. I think I will take his advice any day over something from an internet forum, even one so prestigious as this one ;-)

As I advise in my e-book, follow your doctor's orders!

Another thing is to "eat to your meter" if you are diabetic or prediabetic.
I know that it is boring but I pretty much eat simple foods and I have already tested them many times and know how my body is going to react; been there, done that.

Just take any advice you receive with a grain of salt. Oops, hope I didn't offend any of the "anti-sodium" folks. Trust but verify as a certain president always said.

In my case, I am light on trusting internet advice and heavy on the verify part. I think that advice is something to follow actually, if you don't remember anything else from this.

It is your body after all.
