Worm compost bin before/after
No food wasted since February

In the dead of night I open the worm bin to hear the moist sound my worms make as they break down melon rinds buried under the leaf litter🪱 Hypnotic & wholesome

Do you get birds hovering around trying to get the worms?

SO that would be fantastic if you had birds hovering around 😂

Exactly…. And I am that bird, always hovering and disturbing the poor wormies. They are sick of me!

My hat is off to you. I have bad memories of worms. But my ducks would eat every single slithery one. :D

Windy, bad memories? Let me guess, fishing trips? To be honest I still can’t touch worms with my bare hands. I wear gloves🧤But I can watch composting worms for hours… especially after my grueling 12 hr shift. Now, parasitic worms are a completely different story, I can’t even look at their pictures😱

sk, you’re right, the transformation post was way overdue🤣 Last time I posted it was in 2021!

A friend of mine used to breed worms. One night there was thunder and lightning so he went to the shed to check them. He said when the lightning lit up place he could see them all up on their ends and waving about. It bothered him so much that he gave up worm farming! A strange story, I know!

I was a daddy's girl thru and thru. Dad was a real outdoorsman and I was his shadow. He was old school and as such didnt put up much with being squeamish, haha. That being said, enter worms, or should I say night crawlers. Dad fished. And he also sold the things as bait (rural area). So rainy summer nights dad would take me out to the golf course to pick night crawlers - believe me they love those wet well kept acres of grass in the night! Mom and sis would sit in the car but dad would take me out onto the course with a bucket and a flashlight. Thousands. They'd dart back in the ground quick when the light hit so you had to be fast and grab quick. Yeah. They'd stretch out til you thought surely theyd bust in two and then plop into the crawling bucket. You know he'd make me try too. Haha. And when he was gone to work I would sell the bait to the fishermen that came by. 12/.75. I'll never forget one fella must have been impressed by this little girl reaching into that crawling bucket and counting him out his 12 that he tipped me $5. That was quite a lot for that day and time! So yeah, Ive had my fill of them. 🤣 So my hat is off to you for that beautiful compost!

Always thought worms were interesting; yours are doing very impressive work. My future husband taught me to fish when we were dating. Felt sorry for the poor little worms, but loved having fresh fish in the pan.

Thanks Y! It was black rice. I like the texture. It's a little chewy. It's really good! Hope you're having a good day!!!

Anne, was your friend breeding Indian blue worms? They freak out during thunderstorms. I have those too haha, I’ll inspect my bin next time there’s a thunderstorm. Or maybe I shouldn’t?🤣 The sight you described does sound unsettling. Anyway, it’s so good to see you around, I get sad when you make your account private🥲

Wifey, I’m a pro! No escape whatsoever

Larry, those wigglers are always getting jiggy! I started with approximately 250 worms, their number exponentially grew and I’m now having to start another bin🪱

Windy and a midnight golf course🤣⛳️ That is a fantastic story and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it! Yes I heard about worm casting mounds on golf courses. If we ever meet in person, we should visit a golf course together at midnight and collect night crawlers in honor of your lovely father. I’ll wait in the car🤣🪱I think a few night crawlers ended up in my bin by accident. They are fat and pale, much bigger than my red wigglers. Night crawlers don’t belong in the indoor bin and I’ve been meaning to release them outside but I am too squeamish to handle them🤣 Please, come get them Windy. You were such a brave girl, the $5 tip was well earned and your dad must have been very proud. I really, really loved the story, thank you for sharing💕
