Calamity of Catastrophe. I got a fish bone lodged in my throat and had to go to the local Emergency Room to get it out. I could feel it with my finger all the way down my throat, but they couldn't see it, so I had a CT scan to show where it was exactly. They were going to send me to the main hospital for anesthesia and surgery by an ENT specialist but there was a local surgeon on hand and he took a shot. I had to drink lidocaine numbing agent so they could pull my tongue out of the way with a device and he went at it with long forceps. He got it out, I am so thankful! It was buried in the base of my tongue around the corner and down my throat.

No need for the warning about eating fish, it is the first time this has happened to me in 50 years of eating the stuff. It was a Lake Trout bone from the smoked fish I bought when I went UP North for my birthday trip. It wasn't the fault of the fish, it was just a thing that happened.

I am very grateful for modern medical care. I may be less so when I get the bill? No, really, I am very grateful that I am not in surgery right now which would have been a lot more money and stress.

Sorry to hear that you had that awful experience, Catfish! I had the same thing happen to me when I was a kid. Ended up in the ER same as you. Stuck down in my throat. I was thankful they didnt have to pull my tongue out of the way like you described. That sounds rough. But Im glad they got it out for you and without surgery!

So scary! I love fish. It's my favorite protein. So glad they could get it out without anesthesia and surgery!! Hugs!

Wow, that was quite an ordeal! I had a few close calls with fishbones, too, as a kid—they kind of forever changed the way I eat fish. It’s a horrible feeling to have something stuck in the throat.

Thanks. I have a sore tongue today from all the pulling on it, and that is where the bone was imbedded. But it could've been so much worse! I will always be much more careful eating smoked or any other kind of fish in the future, I learned a hard lesson! I love fishing and I eat a lot of fish too, and won't stop, I have about 12 pounds of smoked fish left from my trip packaged in the freezer and many packages of fish I caught, all with bones. Back on the horse! (Not today though...)

Chew well. Happens frequently in the ER. Many folks eat too fast and don’t chew well.

Since this seems like a place to share fish bone stories, here mine. LOL. I had a cod fish bone stuck in my tonsil as a kid. My MOM who had hospital working experience, pulled it out with tweezers. Crazy!! Don’t try this at home!! 🤣🤣 But boy! Was I relieved!! Stick to fillets! Much safer, less tasty perhaps, but hey!! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I love fish and have always eaten it... that's crazy I didn't know eating could be that dangerous. To think of how many catfish I have caught and eaten 🤯 I'm glad you're doing better. I will make sure I'm taking more time to chew I am also bad to woof down my food when I'm in a hurry... o.O still wow, 😲 it just crazy; glad you're okay.
