Old joke, and I really can’t have pizza anymore as my hubby is diabetic. He is in tip top shape and inherited his diabetes from his parents, I am the one that should be a diabetic, it’s baffling. I am not good at all about being good with how to feed a diabetic, yet we pretty much follow the Mediterranean diet. However, I know I have to do much better, chips need to be forbidden for diabetes is very serious, if it wasn’t they’d call it Livabetes.🙃

The very weird thing about injuring my ribs, is my husband injured his too. As old as we are we have never injured our ribs before, and here we did it both at the same time, only weeks apart and in different circumstances. That’s almost scary or spiritual or something. I guess we’re not working out this weekend. My philosophy being: No pain, no pain.😁

I have the day off, but Al had to work. Of course I hope I can accomplish a lot today. I keep walking into a room and saying, “I should straighten this” then walking out, like I forgot what I went in there in the first place for.🤣

Have a Fantastic Friday!🌺☀️

My skinny as a rail, athletic husband has mildly elevated blood sugar while I've never had an out of range fasting glucose, even when I topped 200 pounds. There's a definite genetic component

That’s good to know! I always thought it was a little difficult to eat it without opening the box.

As I understand it, its genetics that are only kicked into diabetes by a specific cold or flu virus. So, you can have the genes and never get it, the specific cold or flu virus and never get it, but if you have/get both....

Yippee Ki Yay -- where did you get that information from? I've watched a few videos of people who study diabetes, and their take is that it's genetics + crossing your "personal fat threshold." If it was a virus, I doubt it would correlate so much with weight

Elevated doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. Blood glucose is readily available energy. It’s when it goes up and doesn’t coke down is when it’s diabetic. Low blood glucose doesn’t mean you are healthy either. It means you are probably always lethargic

I've heard Dr Greger has done some amazing research on diabetics and diet - you and your hubby could look at his work - it might help.

Writingwyo: Correlation does not imply causation. In the 60's my little sister became a diabetic. My mother was a 60's activist that had consulted in DC to Johnson's Great Society initiatives, been Executive Director, and even started multiple organizations. So naturally for her, when she could find no help for my sister from the then near defunct American Diabetes Association, she initiated the formation of a Diabetes Association in our state. Some of her first activities were to get the leading diabetes doctors and researchers to move to our city. As I recall, that was the conclusion of research done by Dr. Richard Guthrie (1935-2020). Weight gain is a symptom of the ineffective glands, not the original cause of the glands becoming damaged. That damage is the result of a virus some people do not have the genetics with which to make a proper immune system response.

I love pizza and am not giving it up. Most dieticians don't expect diabetics to have to cull all carbs any more. You just have to count them and space them out. I had plans for today too but hubby had other plans so I got to drive him to the chemo center to get an IV. LOL.

Supergainz -- way too many people are running around with CGMs these days and freaking out with every glucose spike. It's my understanding the A1c provides a more accurate picture if there's a real problem.

writingwyo, that's because the A1C shows blood sugar readings over time, which is what's important.

Love the bicycle pizza cutter! LOL! Yes, it's fun growing old together. Don't forget diabetes can be hereditary. Like my hubby said, I have certain health issues I've inheretied that he doesn't have and visa versa. As for A1C, you have to be careful when jumping on the band wagon. If you don't have high glucose with it, you may or may not be diabetic. High A1C can be caused by suppliments. https://www.healthline.com/health/type-2-diabetes/sneaky-reasons-glucose-levels-fluctuate#1

Buy either pita rounds or Naan and make your own personal pizza. I make my own sauce but you can buy it at the store or just use a good quality spaghetti sauce. Then add whatever toppings you choose. I freeze my sauce in oversized silicon ice cube trays so I can pull one or two out for a REASONABLY healthy pizza ONCE IN A WHILE.

trackin64 go to GOOGLE OR AMAZON and search Fred’s pizza cutter. This little company has not only all kinds of cool and funny pizza cutters like the bicycle, motorcycle, chain saw etc. and then go to Fredks home page and take a look at all the fun and weird things they sell. I have spent more than my share on this fun type of things for parties, etc. actually, quality is really quite good.
