Ok, this is actually a big positive. I’ve been dealing with severe lower back pain ( I think sciatica) for the past two weeks, and it’s really impacted me mentally. I ate lots on Sat and yesterday mentally snapped ( grumpy for no reason). Anyway, I celebrate this win.
Any advice on sciatica would be appreciated.

I have it but have not much to offer. What helps me with any kind of body pain is often 15 minutes of icing followed by 15 minutes of heat. Repeat.

regular visits to a good chiropractor. lay on the floor on your back with a rolled up towel under your lower back, ice, and using a tens unit

I’ve had sciatica on and off since I strained my psoas years ago. I now understand how to keep it in check with certain stretches. But many things can cause sciatic nerve pain, it’s often a symptom or a secondary presentation with some other specific cause, like in my case. It’s best to see a doctor and get an actual diagnosis of why you are experiencing sciatica, then you can treat the root cause.

When mine acts up, I use ice and I lay on the floor and put my legs up over the couch to take the pressure off and take Aleve

Stretches, ice pack/heating pad? More walking. Maybe add some light strength training when feeling better.

I have scoliosis which causes sciatica. When no ability to go to chiropractor, I stretch everything from my calves to my arms and neck. all the way through. I lie on cold flat floors with my pelvis tilted and do my abdominal exercises. I stretch out my glutes while in this position... stretching, realighing, I stay the HECK away from heat on my back, it feels superb but it negatively impacts the inflammation. Also - check your waistbands. No tight waists. no jeans if poss. wear track pants or dresses or ... tights? something that does not hang off your waist. when your back's out, even that will pull your spine out of place.

I am so glad to hear that someone else even knows what the psoas is!! I would recommend seeing a good chiropractor. My other two favorites are my physical therapist and massage therapists. They can unwind knots that cause problems I'd never dreamed of. There is a guy by the name of Dr. Mike Rowe on YT that does excellent videos about stuff you can do at home for yourself and teaches you ways to prevent the problem with exercises. I love that guy. I would suggest getting checked out first though to ensure there is no permanent damage causing the problem.

When I had sciatica, I watched Bob and Brad on youtube. They're physical therapists and they have several videos on stretches you can do. My sciatica was gone in just a few days and hasn't come back since. It's been four years.

Terrible pain…. Sit on a chair. Cross one leg above the other and lean forward until you feel a stretch.

currently dealing with sciatica, also I'm 25 weeks pregnant. seeing a physical therapist on Monday. I recommend talking to doctor about physical therapy recommendation. when sleeping on side, sleep with pillow is between knees. when sleeping on back, have a pillow under knees and calves. also, a folded up towel under waist helps to elevate waist and release pressure.

Sciatica is a symptom, rather than a diagnosis. Press your medical provider for a proper cause.

I had sciatica for 10 years. It was caused by bulging discs. Could hardly walk, sit, sleep, or get in/out of car. I did therapies, steriods, pain meds, etc. Finally had surgery. Triple layer microdisectomy. Some immediate relief. Did pool therapy, 3 week course if high dose naproxine sodium (aleve) where my blood work was monitored, and walking. And finally, mental therapy and...hypnosis. 75% pain reduction in the first year, and the rest resolved in the next 2 years. That was 12 years ago. The best advice I can give, is if physical therapy or chiropractor doesn't work, say so!!! They won't do surgery unless the therapies don't work.
