My One Year Anniversary On This Journey

What a journey the past year has been! My life has been complicated and I have been thrown alot of curves any one of which could have derailed me in and of itself. I have risen above it all and continued to focus on my vital needs, never losing site of what my end goal is. Keep in mind, at this point a had already quit drinking and smoking, that occurred on 10/10/09. Guess I over compensated with food because 10 months later I was 30 lbs heavier! Here we go............

8/29/2010 - My journey began, had no clue what I was doing but needed to start somewhere
11/1/2010 - My 80 yr old dad fell and fractured his hip-had hip replacement
3/1/2011 - The company I work for has been sold
4/17/2011 - My brother passed away suddenly from a massive heart attack
4/23/2011 - My husband is hospitalized in ICU for 3 weeks
5/14/2011 - My mom turned 80, I am sole caregiver for two elderly parents
8/4/2011 - My husband is hospitalized once again, another 2 weeks in ICU
9/2/2011 - I have left behind 32 lbs!

Starting weight 277 lbs 9/2/2011 245 lbs 32 lbs down

I have lost a total of 32 lbs so far in this journey. From 277 to 245. WOOT!!
I have lost a total of 28.5 inches
I have gone down 3 clothing sizes
My bad cholesterol has gone from 141 to 72 (normal range is 0-99)
My triglycerides have gone from 325 to 149 (normal range is <150)
My total cholesterol has gone from 244 to 146 (normal range is 140-200)
I have had a nuclear stress test due to my family history and all is A-OK with my heart!

Life isn't about how you survive the storm, it is all about how you dance in the rain!

My best to you all! ~healthybabs

Congratulations on your one year anniversary! Your remarkable journey has had a lot of ups and downs but the final numbers for the year say you are a winner in the loser department! The 32 pounds are wonderful, but what is really impressive is how much healthier you have become! You've been through a lot this past year and you have not only survived, you have conquered. Well done, my friend! Here's to another year of positive change! I sending you lots of love and hugs!

Congratulations on all your achievements this year! You have a boatload of accomplishments in less than 2 years - your doctor should use your journey as a prime example of how to "just do it." Love that dancing in the rain quotation! Wishing you as many successes in the 2nd year, but without all the complications.

Babs, you're amazing! Any ONE of those things would have sent me to bury my head in a vat of chocolate ice cream. With all of this behind you, AND a giant weight loss it proves you can do anything. Just keep going as you WILL get to your goal!

Wow Babs that is so brilliant!!! Just think how different the stress test would have been if you did not have the courage and determination to start this journey - a big cheer from this side of the pond!!

That's great - it must feel awesome to see all those test results back in the healthy normal range. What a difference the year has made in your health. Keep up the outstanding work!

Great going! I read in the Greenfield, MA newspaper that The Bridge of Flowers is reopening there, so it was not washed away though the iron bridge is still closed there in Shelburne Falls. I-91 is still closed on one side going from Greenfield to Deerfield I believe. Stay on track and you will be down another thirty pounds in another year...

Sorry I missed your anniversary, but I love your entry celebrating. You have been through so much this past year and triumphed over all of it. You are such an inspiration. I need to whine less and focus more on my accomplishments. Thanks for the boost of motivation and let's keep on going together.
