Right, time to get back on track.

No, this isn't a New Year resolution post: this is more circumstantial. I've identified that winter is a major problem of mine. It's both a general seasonal thing, and also social. The social part is over: My birthday, Thanksgiving, Work party, Christmas, and New Year are all over. Back to work on Monday, and back to my routine.

I think I'm sufficiently aware by now to know that this next week is going to be difficult: I know that the change to eating less is a lot harder to do at first. I've completely let things go this past month, and have put on about 4 pounds as a result. Honestly, that's not nearly as bad as I had feared, but is far too close to getting back to 200 than I ever want to be again. it's actually interesting just how noticeable 4 extra pounds feel. That applies both ways too, so I'm looking forward to feeling them gone again. :)

Traditionally, I don't really get back on track until much later into the year (typically once spring is in full force). This time, I'm hoping to hit the ground running. Getting into my ideal weight range this year is possible, and if I'm really good, I may even manage it before I hit 40 in October.

Again though, I don't want to set myself goals that I can count as failed early. That only leads to discouragement. Instead, I'm going to continue my short-term goal of 185 (first pound below the "Obese" line), and go from there.

Another goal I'm setting myself for this year is to need to buy new clothes. I'm approaching that point now: several of my favourite t-shirts are starting to look silly on me now, but I have enough of a supply of shirts that have been too small for some time to keep me from having to buy new ones just yet. Shorts are a different matter, however, and the ones I've been keeping up entirely with my belt are going to reach a similar "silly" state soon enough once I get back on track and pass my 185 goal.

My final goal for this year is to not let the winter season defeat me again. That's part of the "hit the ground running" strategy. Hopefully, if I get a decent number of months of good habits under my belt (so to speak), it will give me enough momentum to keep it going through winter too. Time will tell.

So, happy new year to everyone reading: hopefully 2016 will be a positively life-changing one for us all!
