Everyone has their own coping mechanisms Tassos67. I, for one, use humor to get me through the difficult times.

the trick is not to cut around back legs you release the tension of the hide.then you can work hide around to back then pull down removing hide also keeps hair from meat

Deer in the Midwest need to be tested before consumption. There is an outbreak of Cronic Wasting Disease (CWD) that can spread to people.

Deer and chronic wasting disease..You are so right about the testing. Our back-yard-browsing little herd used to be 'fair game' for the freezer but over the years, we did note one fawn acting totally insane and reported it to DNR. We harvested a couple previous to that year, right out the kitchen window. Now we just consider them wild 'family' and don't try to take one. They seem to have a strong genetic defect as some are totally deaf. We try to shoo them away before putting any dog outside on his zip line, but they just stand there and look at the silly humans making the funny gestures. Even the dogs are getting more accommodating and less determined to get the deer. If I ask the oldest dog where are the deer babies, he looks all around to try to see them. I do know a young woman who died from basically chronic wasting disease. It's nothing to risk acquiring.

Scary stuff. In NH you can keep the deer if you hit it, nice lean meat. Glad to hear you are okay.
