Fatcheerleader's Journal, 24 August 2011

So I've been checking blood glucose levels twice a day with the monitor they sent home. So far, I've had slightly impaired fasting and low blood sugar. My slightly impaired fasting numbers are 105-109 and my low numbers an hour after eating (and feeling headache/nausea) are 114-123. No high blood sugar yet, so at least the Metformin is doing the job it was hired to do, right? Anyway, I'm such a scaredy-monkey. My nurse said, "Just take this little thing, count to three and prick yourself." She said that would be easier than loading it in the auto loader that has a trigger which shoots in and out of your skin QUICKLY and less painfully.

"Derrr..Okay." Yeah. Not happening. Now I know why she said look while you do it or you will miss. I actually have to load it up in the little shooter thing cause me trying to do it to myself takes FORever. I did convince a friend to use one of the cartridge type stickers/lancets. My friends love me. She did it and now I'm not going to have to load those into the machine each time. I'm just not a rip the Band-aid off kind of girl. (Well, unless it's an actual Band-aid, and even then it depends on the circumstance.) I mean have you ever tried to sneak up and stab your own self? It's comical to say the least. Just one more motivator to keep my blood sugar under control, otherwise I will have to hire an actual monkey to follow me around for insulin shots. NO WAY will I be able to do it to myself. Scaredy-monkey.

"sneak up and stab your own self" bwahahaha! I'm sure that is EXACTLY what I look like I'm trying to do. If someone was video recording me I'm sure they could send it to Funniest Videos! So, I admit, I hate stabbing myself too and have no desire to ever have to inject insulin. So metformin, low carbs and exercise all thew way for me. Good thing you caught this early! Best wishes:)

:( Ugh, how terrible. I'm also on Metformin (due to PCOS), I would hate to know that I would have to check my blood sugar, the thoughts of insulin shots......terrifying. Right now I go every three months for A1C and insulin level check. In fact, just went last week. They called Monday (I wasn't home and hubby answered :/ ) and they said everything was good. I am curious to know my exact numbers though. Right now I am on 750 mg twice a day. My GYN said she might bump me up to 1000 mgs twice a day, depending on the results. My primary care physician actually did the blood work though, and I haven't heard from my GYN to find out if she wants to up it yet. You are doing marvelous on your journey. Hopefully you won't have to keep sticking yourself forever.
