BulletProof3's Journal, 17 November 2015

Good morning! :)

There will come a time when the scale stalls, stops, or you might even have a small gain, especially when we are exercising. This is due to muscle gains and body recomposition (ex. rounder glutes, but a smaller waist). At this point, we have to rely on measurements and BF%. I surely don't want to have muscle mass lose, just to see a smaller number on the scale that only I can see.

Hope everyone has a Terrific Tuesday!

My first go-round on low carb back in 2005/2006 was going well, then I started going to the gym and got stuck in the 330's for about four months. I was losing inches, but the scale wouldn't budge. I imagine I put on fifty pounds of muscle while losing fat and the net result was no loss or gain on the scale. I stay off the scale and let my clothes tell me what's up, I won't weigh in again till the end of January, and I'm just fine with that, I'm averaging losing about two inches a month, maybe a little more, and it's awesome!

Way to go, Phil! That's an awesome plan! I think it's time for me to cut back on the scale a little more too. I don't weigh every day, but I think I could afford to less often. I actually even let the fact of knowing that I would weigh in in a couple of days stop me from strength training yesterday. SMH! How stupid was that?! VERY, I know! That idiot box can be our worst enemy! Anywhoo... Planning on going to get in a b it today! :)

I agree in one way but I stopped weighing my self and stopped tracking and i gained 60 lb. and I was still exercsing !with all the stretch in our clothes these days its hard to use as a guideline. But when the stretch was stretched beyond capacity that was my wake up call. So what have I learned exercise yes but not be obsseded get outside more often , and enjoy the world we are in through biking walking kayaking////keep the body moving. Be more concerned with clean eating and what goes in your body . As we know its 80% nutrition 20% exercise.. so yes I weigh often I still have a way to go to my goal but I need to see the number to stay in check. But what ever works for the individual! the body is a curious thing! have a health tuesday!

awesome post BP and Phil,, I plan to keep an eye on things during the holidays but after that I think I am going to back off on the scale myself . Mine just started moving here and there . but that's ok I have a good outlook,, this is my way of life,, if it takes me 6 more months to lose 5 pounds,, then so be it . I love this WOE !!

Exactly, Tamarah JO! @blondie-61 If we have truly learned the meaning of healthy eating, what plan works for us, and make it a habit the results will come no matter if we're watching the scale or not. The weight gain doesn't come from not watching the scale, it comes from eating off the plan that works for us. Personally I am making lifestyle changes, not dieting. Weight always comes back from dieting, because we allow ourselves to go back into old habits once we've reached our goals or even before. I not only want to look better, but I want to feel better, be healthier, and live as long as possible. Keeping those things in mind, it will be virtually impossible to gain body fat. Thx, Scalewatcher.

Nice thread...I am all about losing fat and feeding the muscle! I look from time to time to see where I am...but the food logging is the most important to help me not go astray between weigh-ins.

I learned a valuable lesson last week about that silly idiot box! I weigh in once a week just to make sure what I'm doing is working because I've had to change things around a couple of times in the last year. It's definetly time to get back on the exercise! I'm still losing inches and my clothes are getting looser so I'm happy :D Nice work bulletproof!

Your journal is very correct! I use a BF% calculator to make sure I am not losing strength. But as I have read in my research, it is hard to gain muscle while cutting. I am sure its possible but I am very lazy to calculate macros. I want to eat and live. But the BF% calculator is so helpful. Also working with a trainer to make sure you keep your strength while cutting for fat loss is also helpful. Just need to make sure we eat enough and keep up the training

Me too, HCB! @Spiritspell, naturally we need to weigh more often when starting a new plan. I'm talking about when the loss stalls or stops. I'm thrilled for your progress! :) @Panigale, I've personally had gains (muscle mass and strength) while eating keto. I think it's an individual thing depending on body type. I didn't use a trainer, but I made sure that I was increasing in load. If you can lift more weight or do more reps at the same load, it's a sure thing positive change is occurring.
