Due to heart issues, I've been eating low fat, low sodium, 1200 calories most days diet. I've now been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. My doctor wants me to also lower my carbohydrates. I don't know what I can eat now. Does anyone else have heart issues and diabetes? What can you eat?

Filling up on Power Greens can substitute for the right kind of carbs & a banana a day will give you the right kind of sugars with energy for up to 4 hours. Power Packed brand High Protein mixed nuts is good and low sugar. Celery with low sugar peanut butter for a snack. Ummm… oh! Rolled Oats, Lowfat Greek Yogurt (naturally low in sugar to none), Flounder, Swai & Tuna Steaks or canned white albacore tuna is good. Boneless/Skinless chicken breasts/tenders grilled, baked or air fried. Try sticking to all wheat & whole grains when you eat bread.

You’re welcome! I’m just getting back into this healthy lifestyle change but a few years back I started this whole journey and just did a lot of research. I ended up losing almost 100 pounds and then last year there were some major changes in my life and I ended up gaining 60 pounds back so I’m feeling like I’m at the beginning again but at least this time I have some kind of knowledge under my belt. I hope that little bit is helpful 🙏🏼

There is a lot of low carb veggies—I’m sure your doctor doesn’t want you to cut out those. Just try to eliminate any added sugar, syrups, refined flours for carbs that release their starches slowly in the digestion process, usually because they are high fiber, too. Things like beans, true whole grains, the less processed the better. I had a result in a prediabetic range last year but with better diet was able to lower it back to normal.

Thank you both! I went grocery shopping yesterday. I was now checking labels for carbs. Yikes!
