New Year’s Day treat: Hot chocolate 2% milk, Ghirardelli’s Dutch-processed unsweetened cocoa & stevia. Topped with Thai 🥥 cream, plus, my Ghirardelli’s & 🥥oil covered peanuts, also used 1 stevia pkt. Can you tell I love 🍫? Lol

@YOH…Yes, it’s full of fat, good fat. There is research out there that I have learned from several nutritionists that I’ve followed for years that says, in moderation, coconut oil/cream helps prevent Alzheimer’s. It is a type of fat that is used mostly for energy and brain function. It also helps your hair and skin. Dr. Axe, Dr. Mandell, & more support this. I strictly measure my portions of coconut 🥥 oil and coconut cream/milk and it is figured in with my daily allowed calories. The benefit of it outweighs the calorie count for me. Plus, it tastes great to me. It helps to continue to enjoy my coffee without the added sugary coffee creamers I used to use. There’s also people who think coffee ☕️ is “bad” for you, but in moderation, it too, has health benefits. I guess it’s all a personal choice to decide which research you think is true lol! I go by how I feel now. I feel like it helps my brain function to be more clear.

@jenjabba…I think people have a fear of fat because of the way nutrition was incorrectly taught in the old food pyramid. Long ago, physicians thought fatty foods clogged arteries and made you fat. Well, it doesn’t if eaten correctly (in moderation as a part of a healthy diet). I’m PROOF of that! I was a sugar junky, now I’m a high protein high fat junky! 😂 What makes you fat and gives you heart disease and other inflammatory illnesses is keeping your INSULIN way to high for too long because of over eating sugary foods and processed foods that quickly turn into sugar in the body. Or just overeating! Also, most cooking oils that are hydrogenated junk is bad (fried foods in vegetable oil for example). Nutrition information is now changing to be the OPPOSITE of what was ENGRAINED in society long ago, including me.

Storms, i grew up in the high protein low carb low fat era. When i started my journey (this time) in 2022 i was hyper focused on mobility and getting the pounds off and to me that was caloric restriction focused on high protein low carb low fat. My adrenals are failing causing metabolism to be super sluggish so calories were sub 800 for many months. Unhealthy but no movement on the scale otherwise even with walking and p.t. For an hour 3X a week. Many times thought i would have a heart attack or stroke just walking it was so hard (post THR) for first probably 5 months. That’s neither here nor there…i met with a nutritionist at pt who was very upset I wasn’t getting ANY fats. I do know the difference between fat in an avocado and fat in ice cream but i just didnt have the caloric allowance. I actually said i would worry about fat after i got the fat on my body off or something to that effect. I understand slightly that it is important to have healthy fats but outside of avocados i dont know what those are. Lesson to self today to learn. I use heavy whipping cream 2 tablespoons in my coffee every day and thats the only thing i dont record in my food journal but its in my head. I have coconut cream in the pantry i think. Maybe i will try it that way. Never thought of it till i read your post. Sorry for the diatribe. I appreciate all the knowledge that gets imparted on FS.
