"Happiness isn't size specific." Many people discover that after losing weight they're about as happy as they ever were. Happiness is a choice not a condition of achieving a "perfect" body. Choose to be happy now!"--unknown

Absolutely. Like that saying, "wherever you go, you take you with you." We need to appreciate where we are while making choices that support our goals. Easier said than done some days. If you can't be happy "where you are", how will you be happy when you get "there"?

That's true, it's what I have been telling people who think their life will be perfect when they get to their goal weight.

Ah, Glen. I'm right there with you. Happy is fine, but happy to me comes in a flash and is gone. I look for the same as you... satisfaction and peace. I agree it's not attached to our weight or our circumstances. We choose our responses so our calm resides in our minds and within our grasp and sway. I think I said this the other day "We all get into the river at a different time than everyone else in life. We get out of the river at a different time than everyone else in life. All you can do in between is learn now to float." Man, I am really treading water right now, but I'll manage until someone decides it's time for me to get out of the river.

Here is another quote that I really like. Hope it doesn't offend: "Is fat the really worst thing a human being can be? Is fat worse than vindictive, jealous, shallow, vain, boring, evil or cruel? Not to me.--J K Rowling

It always bothered me that people look at heavier people differently. If they only knew the friendship they could have with someone not perfect in their eyes! I don't look at people for what they look like, I'm only interested in what's in their hearts.

You know what else is in fat people's hearts? Unhealthy amounts of cholesterol, high blood pressure, and coronary heart disease.
Fat people, like anyone else, can have amazing personalities and be wonderful people. But we shouldn't forget the ugly truth, that being overweight will lead to a more difficult life than being of a healthy weight.

Like everything else in life, it helps to know the facts surrounding the quote. I suspect this person was not diabetic with heart problems prior to attaining their goal weight.

Isn't it interesting how different people draw different 'takes' from the same quote? I don't assume that the author necessarily achieved his/her goal weight because I think they're saying happiness doesn't and shouldn't hinge on size or outward appearance in general -- yes, overweight can often mean more health problems, but health and happiness are not inextricably woven together . . . I know many healthy, but unhappy folks and many happy, yet unhealthy (whether through lifestyle or disease/illness) folks.

Agree with Losinit. And like what Northern and Glen had to say. I guess I also see happiness as more transitory but "contentment" works for me. It has elements of acceptance, gratefulness, and peace.

Years ago, in high school, there was an awesome young girl, I think her name was Sandy; who had the courage to challenge shop rules. While us girls were taking home economics, Sandy was building a canoe!!!! in shop with the boys. She was steaming the ribs etc. I was fascinated. Years later I met her and remembered she was so shy and asked her about the canoe...she cried. She had lost a gazillion pounds since high school...and I was the only one who had not remembered her as fat.
