Debbie Cousins's Journal, 30 July 2023

I’ve been SO tired! I’ve been taking 2-3 naps every day. Still haven’t had a bowel movement since the very small one on the 25th. Been eating a lot less calories, and I’ve had to force those down to reach my Fiber and Protein goals. I’ve had to back up and erase gibberish several times because I keep typing in my sleep! Still in a lot of pain . #8 most days. Taking Oxycodone every four hours, and staggering with Tylenol at the two hour mark. Have not drunk ANY water! Have been doing my incentive spirometer faithfully, along with my ankle pumps, 10x every waking hour. Husband has been WONDERFUL! Twin friends are coming to “watch me” while hubby goes to church. PT only has me doing a couple of the exercises, and only one set at a time, 3x a day. Husband has to help me move my - dang. This is the part where I can’t see what I’m typing, and I forgot what I was saying. Better go.

Still a lot of swelling. Have to walk with a walker. REALLY hurts when my leg isn’t elevated. So glad I pushed through those “Armchair push-Ups” that I hated doing - otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to get up and down from sitting position. Still a LONG way to go in the recovery department ! Bye for now. Debbie Cousins

You will get through this tough part and be better off for it in time. Oxycodone is constipating. Drink miralax.

First week is the worst, hang onto the walker buddy because you don’t want to fall. Hopefully you have a good physical therapist they really helps. Be consistent with pain meds, I alternated Motrin and Norco so I never had a lapse really helps if you can do that.

Sorry your having so much pain. Are you unable to keep water down? Asking cuz it helps with constipation too. Metamucil helps me alot.

It’s the medication that’s causing the severe constipation. Ugh. When I had my wisdom tooth taken out, I had to take hydro’s temporarily so to counter that, I ate lots of chia seed pudding (cause I had to eat soft food) and I took a stool softener on top of that. I STILL had some constipation. Had to put my feet 👣 up on the rim of toilet (or you could use a short stool?) to get it OUT. OH! The joy!! Sorry you are in so much pain. It’ll take a while, but this too shall pass. I also love water, so drinking lots of it helped. Hope you can drink more water. I know you are not a fan, but it’s necessary right now to help w the constipation. PRAYERS!!!

I think you should drink more water! We can't live without it. I hope you will drink more water. 💫

I agree with StormsGirl. Oxytocin or Oxycodone will definitely make you constipated. stool softener and a gallon of water everyday helps alleviate the constipation and pain. I have a lawsuit against the makers of oxycontin. it never was intended to ease pain. just hook you on pain killers. your better off with a pain pill like Tramadol and Tylenol. and getting up and moving will help a lot of your pain caused by lack of movement not just in the body but in the mind.
