My Diet: Food Made From Food

For years, I've been working towards improving my diet for the long term. It's hard to find a way to eat healthy, when most products labeled as "healthy" actually aren't healthy at all. For the past year, I have committed myself to only eating food that is made from food. I've dropped a little bit of weight from it, after having gained a bit beforehand; mostly, I just feel cleaner and more energetic. I don't have as many digestive problems, and I have more energy. By eliminating a lot of things from my diet, I now barely shop in the "middle" of the grocery store. So what exactly do I mean "food that is made from food"?

Well, it goes something like this:
If the product in question contains ingredients that I cannot get by themselves elsewhere in the store, I don't touch it. Anything modified or partially modified, mechanically separated, hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated is out. High fructose corn syrup is completely out. And if it has enough sodium for one day in a single serving, I don't go near it. Nutshell: no space food.

I now primarily shop in produce, dairy, and meat departments. The only things I buy in the middle of the store are flour for baking, spices (cannot live without garlic or basil), olive oil, and marinara since I have not mastered making it myself.

It's a lot of work since I cook every single day, except for maybe two or three times a month. I really feel so much better now, and I could never go back to eating over processed and preserved food. I really encourage everyone to make the effort to eating simply. :)
