Good Friday Morning & MAY 1st,Buddies!!
Why should we celebrate EVERY pound lost (banished)????

So many of us (including myself) at times have been greatly disappointed with
ONLY losing a pound or half a pound. Today I want to try to help us all
appreciate the MAJOR EFFORT that goes into that result.
I am going to “sketch out” some general observations and use “round numbers” for the SAKE OF ILLUSTRATION.
Please understand, I know the math of weight loss is at best an “inexact’ science.
It is further complicated by our greatly varying body sizes, shapes, and individual metabolic rates.
First, Weight loss theory says to lose a pound of stored fat, we must BURN 3,500 MORE calories than we eat & drink.
If a person is maintaining their weight on 2,000 calories a day, in order to lose a pound in a week, they must CUT their calories by 500 per day. While this is doable, anyone who has tried it has discovered IT IS NOT EASY.
2. In general terms, a person will burn about 1 calorie for every 25 steps walked (for me personally that was a major bummer to hear that in class …LOL…of course, the heavier we are, the MORE calories we will burn.
So, for our illustration, this person walks about 2,500 steps (approx.) each mile and burns about 100 calories….So if they manage 5 miles per day between exercise walking and their “daily routine” walking…They are now burning an extra 500 calories a day walking (if they were NOT walking ANY before.)
RESULT? They can lose ONE pound by the end of the week through exercise.
So if our “imaginary person” cuts their diet 500 calories per day AND walks 5 miles per day faithfully, they could reasonably expect to lose 2 pounds per week…HOWEVER, that is assuming there are NO DAYS when they got “off plan”.
(I already hear the groans out there…LOL…because as we ALL know…everyone gets “off plan” sooner or later.)
AND this journal post has not even MENTIONED the weeks that real life people have done everything I mentioned above AND NOT LOST ANYTHING or even GAINED !!!!
So, my dear FS buddies, the NEXT time you step on the scale and show ANY loss, and especially a loss of a WHOLE POUND…please do yourself and ALL of us a BIG favor. Celebrate!!! Celebrate ENTHUSIASTICALLY!!! Because every pound lost (banished) is GONE!!!! AND you have EARNED the right to CELEBRATE!!!
Thanks for listening AND Thanks for caring!!!

IMHO... Change one variable at a time. Spend thee to six weeks learning to log and track you food and "training" yourself to eat your recommended calories to sustain yourself. If you do this slowly you won't feel like you are starving yourself. Then do the same with exercise. Start slow and realize when you add exercise you will have to make sure you are eating enough to allow your body to recover from the exercise or you are going to feel tired and sore constantly.

I know this is tricky. I increased my walking mileage by a look t but had to increase my calories so my body could build muscle. After several weeks of that, I have now decreased calories while keeping the walking and now I'm off the plateau and losing again. It's all a process.

That's right! Any loss is a victory. I'm really beginning to embrace that. :-)
