My boys favorites is to add 1 cup mixed frozen veggies and 2 Tb of veggie bouillon(I make it from braggs yeast) in 4 cups of rice. Turn on the cooker and voila!. The meat eaters put a bit of whatever chopped up and instant "fried "rice. Rice cookers rock.

That lunchbox does sound cool!! I didn't realize you can cook other things besides rice in a rice cooker. Mmmmm

Oh yes, I do a beans and rice too in the rice cooker. My family hates plain white rice but they will eat any rice dish go figure. I love it because it shuts itself off and has a warming function, win, win.

I like the rice cooker better than a slow cooker because it acts like a slow cooker only faster. All the vegetarian slow cooker recipes only take 4 hours on low, well thanks, but I'm still at work after 4 hours.

Roger Ebert wrote on book on rice cookers believe it or not. I haven't read it, but the snippets I've seen are more of a guide to thinking outside the rice. I really want to read it.

I never heard of using a rice worker for cooking, other than for rice. Now you have my curiosity going. I am going to Google it. :)~Ann

It's really nice for soup. Just saute your vegetables in the cooker, add broth and rice. Boom! soup.

Yeah the 4 hours in a crock pot for vegetarian recipes is nuts. Who only works 4 hours? I've gotten pretty creative because of that, trying to feed a houseful when I didn't get home until after 6pm. I am the queen of stir fry's too lol.

When I was still working I used an outlet timer (like you use for Christmas tree lights) to set my crock pot to start 4 hours before I got home. Of course that only works for veggie-type foods you're not worried about leaving on the counter for a few hours before cooking. It was great for soups!

That would work if you are using foods without any issues with bacteria build up while sitting out. If in a liquid though many may have issues.
