VickyRoschele's Journal, 05 July 2022

Dr. (Endocrinologist) put me on a 1200 calorie diet last January (2021) I lost 49 lbs in a matter of 5 months, it felt easy to do, some days I struggled to even eat the 1200. Then I got lazy, quit counting and fell back off the wagon. I gained back 8lbs. I've been trying to get back to 1200 a day since this January but I'm finding it next to impossible. I'm so hungry all I want to do is cry. I'm frustrated and angry. I'm eating filling low calorie foods but I can't fight this stupid hunger. I am just miserable. :( What do any of you do to keep motivated and not to be hungry?

It might be what you are eating. Low calorie foods often don't fill you up. Usually when I am craving snacks, I eat some type of protein and it fills me up. Also make sure you are eating fats. Use olive oil, eat avocados, include almonds in your snacks. Limit fruit to berries and apples at 1st. Fruit has a lot of sugar. Veggies are a better choice at first. These are things that helped me lose almost 50 lbs. Hope it helps you.👍

Diana is right but sometimes I just cannot get full. If I need to feel something in my stomach, I eat a 5 calorie sugar free jello. I don't chew it up much because it makes me feel fuller and i go to bed. I also will eat 2-3 saltines (13 calories each) with a big glass of water and a 50 calories frigo light string cheese. You can eat 3 saltines, 2 jellos and a string cheese for under 100 calories. Sorry if that sounds silly but it is my secret. LOL Also- why such a low calorie plan? At your weight you could drop pounds quickly eating 1600-1800. I'm no doctor but that sucks! I would cry.

Oh Vicky, don't be discouraged. You can figure this out, I know you can. Google high satiety foods and pick foods you like. Also Google the nutritional facts/information for the foods you're eating, in order to be aware of the calories and macro numbers, ie. •Fat •Carbs •Protein. Once you get the hang of it, it will seem easy. Diana and Davidsprincess really know what they are talking about and give great advice. 💕

That’s super hard, and I’m so sorry you’re discouraged!! Quick questions: How much protein do you eat (in grams)? Not supplements, but whole food proteins? For me, satiety boils down to protein, fiber (30-40 g./day). Also, are you getting enough sleep? When I’m not getting enough sleep (7 hours/night) I get stupid hungry. I will also second what DP said - you could easily bump to 1400-1500 calories a day (with adequate activity) and easily lose weight at a good clip. It seems so counterintuitive, but you need calories to burn calories. Try getting your macros dialed in first, then if that doesn’t work, up your calories. That’s my friendly unsolicited advise.

And hydration! I have to drink about 10-12 glasses of water a day or I get peckish and start snacking!

Hey girl are you eating 5 small meals a day. Or have a protein drink in between. And intermittent fasting will shrink your stomach. It’s hard but if you get thru the first week you’ll feel less hungry. And each week after.

Oh and 64 ounces of water a day for sure

Have you ever tried fasting?

Congratulations on the weight loss so far. I was 298# when I started this journey 3 years ago. I have lost 100+# since then on 1500 +/- calories a day. Your issue may be that your body thinks that you are in a food scarcity situation. I agree with others, that seems like a really low calorie intake. Also getting enough no calorie liquids is a must. You have come a long way, proving that you can do it. There are many people who are willing to support you and your journey. Stick with your search for the plan that works for you! You can do this,

maybe try eating more, but high nutrient dense foods!? Listen to your body - if you're hungry and then fuel yourself with good food! restart your metabolism then slowly take the calories back down over a span of a few weeks. k

When I eat a lot of carbs (even low calorie) I crave more carbs and feel hungry. What do your macros look like ? More protein or fat maybe ? And I am trying intermittent fasting as well. I will let you know how that goes ?!? Xoxo hugs

You didn’t say why you saw the endocrinologist (Diabetes? Thyroid?) last year, but that’s where I would go for answers. What is the goal? What do other patients do? Can they refer you to a registered dietitian? My suggestion in the meantime is to get busy when hunger hits. Go for a walk, clean something, dance in your living room— any activity that distracts. The added bonus is that you burn more calories.

In addition to making sure I'm eating enough protein, I eat 1-3 macadamia nuts with each meal/snack and that really helps with not feeling too hungry. Also I stay hydrated and that helps too

Add more fat and protein. Add more calories up to 1500 -1700. It’s more sustainable.

It's so funny - I respect both Diana and DP but am not eating at all like they say, especially Diana. I started a low fat diet and lost 10 pounds in less than a month. I eat lots and lots of grapes. I was eating avocados, almonds and Frigo low fat string cheese but gave them up for the most part because although they are "good" fats as far as cholesterol, they don't work well on a low fat diet. When I get hungry in the evening a hot drink helps.

1200 calories is not a lot at all. I've capped my calories at 2000 per day, but I watch that I don't eat refined carbs. I may have a little sugar, usually in the form of fruit or berries. I try to eat a lot of protein and do some weight training and walking. You HAVE to do some type of activity. Believe me, I have so many muscles that just tightened up from not using them, I'm just getting my flexibility back and stregth back in my legs. If you are working out, it could be the muscle you are building is what is part of your weight now. I'm down almost 80 lbs since January, and I'm not too hungry during the day. My suggestion, make a plan for yourself. Yes, you may need to lose weight, but you also want to be healthy and 1200 calories is pretty tough to maintain. If you find yourself crying, then something is wrong. You need to look over everything you are doing and find what works best for you. staying away from sugar and eating lean meats, veggies and fruits will help curb your appetite. Keep away from processed food as well. Please don't cry. I weighed more than you did at one point and I just was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I said this year, I would take my life back! I developed a plan, and basically stuck to it, making adjustments if I needed to or if I hit a plateau. GF, I still have a ways to go and it's not easy at first, but it does get better. Some days, I cannot WAIT to hit the weights in the gym!! Some days, I could pass, but I go anyway and I feel so much better when I do!!! You really have to be in the mindset to want to take your health back. People on this website are more than willing to help you through it, especially on the tough days. You can do it!! Brush the frustration away. If you do exercise, just do what you can at the beginning, and do an activity you LIKE to do. Don't overdo it. You aren't in a race. this is journey for YOUR life, not anyone else's. As you progress, you just challenge yourself a little more at your own pace. You really can do this!

1200! This is not healthy weight loss. It will destroy your muscles, physique and health. I eat 2400-2500 kcal and sometimes I am hungry. I am 167 sm, 54 years old.

Eat more protein. Avoid sugar or foods that turn into sugar (carbs). When I eat a ton of protein I crave less food, When I say protein I mean lean meat and healthy low sugar low carb protein powders like garden of life.

When I feel hungry I tell myself this is the time that my body is going to eat the stores of food that it has placed all over my me. I pat my flabby thighs and tummy and tell my body to eat them! I take a drink of water and lift the bag of tins that holds the amount of weight that I want to lose. I also have a bag of tins that equal the amount of weight that I have lost, I loft that too to remind me of how far I have come and not to slide back! It works. I look forward to being hungry because I am getting rid of weight.
