That is so great for your first month of maintenance! To lose close to 2 pounds. I have never had a maintenance time - I'm always either gaining or losing. Although I have been maintaining a 5 pound loss for about 3 months now but I am supposed to be losing! Good job! What a sweet poochie!

thanks guys. I am trying something new this time with the moderate carb plan to see if it is something that works for me. I think I am losing weight because I am on the move. Tend to be lighter in the summer. It will even up come winter I think. Yeah that doggie is a darling. He is pining for the water because that is his favourite thing but he is still too chicken to swim.

Your maintenance for around 120lbs is probably around 1900-2000 calories based on what you've posted. Nice!

Love it when the belly goes away. Your hike and traveling companion look like a great time 🐺🚶🏻♀️

@Oats. BTW I really liked what you said about restrictive diets in your june 1 journal. I will quote it here. Really put into words some of my own maintenance method, "A balanced diet to me isn't one that includes all foods. We seem to be in cultural moment where if you aren't including everything on the menu frequently or aren't eating the way most people eat most of the time, you are restrictive or deprived. Well, I guess it is restrictive, but being restrictive - or perhaps selective? - is good. Restrictions are good. No boundaries or limits result in chaos. The problem most people have is that they aren't restrictive enough. They eat any amount they want of any food they want any time they want. To be in good health, you have to have some restrictions."

I definitely do have some restrictions as well- limiting treats and carbs works for me.
Well done on your first maintenance month!

@Liv: A pet peeve of mine is when dieters consume cake or a fast food burger with a shrug and the tagline of "I deserved this!" That's where a restriction should have come in. No one "deserves" to erase all of their hard work that week for a food item that is likely a culprit in making them obese in the first place. Healthy, lean people DO have restrictions -- they just wield them out of habit, rather than stressing about them.

@Groatmeal. Thank you. Having maintainers like you around helps me see that it is doable.

@JB I hear you but different folks different strokes.. I think. The splurge and restrict method works for some

Glad you liked it, Liv. What I was saying is that anyone losing fat or improving their health is imposing some kind of restriction or boundary even if they claim "My diet isn't restrictive". They are either restricting when they eat, how much they eat or what they eat, or some combination of these. And none of these is inherently more restrictive than the others. People should choose the combination that they can live with best.

Very true oats! In the modern world we do too little for the abundance of food at our disposal to be free eating

Superman, and people who have never tracked their calories have little idea of how much energy is in food. My tall husband who has never had a weight problem because he hates most modern food was shocked when I told him the plain croissant he was eating contains at least 300 calories. He didn't believe me until I broke down the estimated fat and carb content. And if one bakery uses more butter or flour, who knows what it really is. And even if it's 10% more butter, it's so energy dense it makes a difference.
