My husband and I were just talking about this. Have you ever seen the photos from Woodstock? Everyone was so lean - not just thin, but lean, with visible abs and bones (hip, clavicle, etc.). During that period, the avg. daily calorie consumption was 2K-3K per day, so they were definitely well-fed. I think this speaks volumes for food quality and activity. The jump from size 14 to 18 doesn't in the last 5 years doesn't surprise me; most people sat on their behinds and ordered takeout for the entirety of the pandemic, and that has big impacts on body comp. Scary statistics.

I'm in a 14... Up from an 8/10 last year which saddens me. But more interestingly is the difference in sizes of the brands. They don't want you to feel overweight. I once squeezed my fat ass into a 6 because it was labeled 'curvy'. I couldn't help but feel excited even though I knew it was a lie. Missing my loose skin. Rather have it loose than full of fat. And I'll get there again.

I’m dropping sizes. Being overweight is unhealthy.

@DP yes, vanity sizing isn't doing any good. You'll get there, for sure.

When I see kids coming home and going from school it really hits home. They are not dressed neatly. Dirty hair, bad skin, and white a ghosts. I remember my prime. Being active at sports and in shape. Beach every day in the summer. Clubbing and dancing till I was soaked. EVERY kid should have a prime. It's just not right what we've become as a country. Maybe we can't save them, but at least let's try to save ourselves! EVERYONE HERE in F-secret nation is making positive effort towards positive change. Enjoy your day and kick some ass everybody! Much Love 2U All, 2HJ

But we cannot keep feeding our kids and grandkids the same foods and same volume of foods that got most of the FS members on this site to begin with. I read people say “just because I’m dieting doesn’t mean my kids/grand kids shouldn’t have a treat” , or chips, or whatever. We have to start somewhere teaching people portion control and healthier eating most of the time and treat type foods once in a while, not everyday. We are stuck in a generational obesity and diabetes vicious circle. The life expectancy of the generation below the boomers has lowered even pre Covid. Theirs will be the very first generation that on an average will not live to be as old as their parents. We are talking those of you who are now about 50 and younger.

DP -women's sizing is indeed weird. I once went to a conference in a size 6 skirt and size 14 jacket, both of which fit perfectly. And I'm bottom heavy. 🤔 When I entered high school 40 years ago, I was 5 foot 4 and 125 pounds. I was considered a fat girl then

Kenna that is right. As the focus has shifted to counting calories and macros it is only going to get worse. All foods are not created equal when it comes to our health. I really don't have an issue with people eating some 'junk"... but it is when they call it breakfast, lunch or dinner ? When did a candy bar or bag of chips become dinner ?

Kenna - one of the most dysfunctional things I find about our current food environment is that kids require "kid food", which is generally monotonous and nutritionally appalling. At family gatherings, my brother is always bringing chicken nuggets for my nephews to eat instead of what the rest of us are eating. I cringe every time. I wasn't forced to eat stuff I didn't like, except for meat, but I was expected to eat from what was on the table. How will kids raised on nuggets and gogurt ever expand their tastes?

When it comes to food choices and building better eating habits, parents and grandparents have to lead by example. I would never suggest never having a treat once in a while whether it be chips, wine or a banana split. When you do severe, restrictive eating it begins to put undo importance, craving for those things. Portion control is crucial and NOT Keeping this type of food in your house is crucial to anyone’s success.

I think I would crawl into a hole and not eat for a month if I ever reached a size 18.

True Allegra. And the indulgent "be kind to yourself and eat cookies and take it easy" message we kept getting post-pandemic was not helping. There is no reason to stuff oneself with cookies while doing no activity.

About sizing - Kim K recently went on a crash diet to squeeze her big plastic butt into Marilyn's dress. Proof that Marilyn was a petite, healthy woman (who lifted weights btw) with a tiny waist, not the equivalent of today's "size 16" fat activists like misinforming everyone she was.
