Does your mother-in-law support your efforts to lose weight? As your mom, I sometimes used food as an expression of love, as a reward, and as a way to bring peace in our household. I know I did you a great disservice by doing this too much. Maybe you need to prepare yourself healthy alternatives to take with you when you go to her house? It's a drag to do this, I know. On your brother's birthday, we went to a pizza place. I brought a container full of brown rice and vegetables. Yes, I was eating correctly, but was I envious? Hell, yeah. Love you!

Your mom's on here? That's totally awesome! And sweet. My mom and I are trying to lose weight together, but she's not on here. Not YET anyway.. Mwahahahahaaaa! *Ahem* Sorry. Weekends are hard for me too. We went out to Chili's on Saturday and I would have done worse if my food would have been prepared better. (Nothing "wrong" with it.. just very not delicious) Later that night I had two very high calorie alcoholic beverages, so I haven't had a loss recently. Oh well, better than a gain. I'm back in the saddle too.

@mom: She does sort of, but I think she feels like I over do it. Plus both of us are passive aggressively fighting over diet (kind of silly). I recently won the whole grain battle but the is fat vs carbs war rages on. (I believe in a low fat, whole grain rich diet; she believes in a high fat, low carb diet (but at least those carbs are whole grain now?).) Yes, I cook as an expression of love, as you did. I love to cook, Richard loves to eat, and doing something that makes him happy makes me happy. Also, Richard's family is even worse than us on this; no get together is complete without a "special" dinner, even when we're just casually visiting. Norrice, apart from her strange affinity for full fat dairy products, actually eats pretty decently most of the time, and this habit of ours is hurting her as much as us. Dunno. I am slowly reforming Richard and Norrice's diets, and eventually, maybe we'll move on to that. In the mean time, yes I will pack a dinner.

It is totally awesome, I agree. I actually kind of love that going out is often so disappointing. I got Panda express yesterday and ended up throwing half of it away because it was poorly seasoned, overly sweet, and the rice was underdone. I got the beijing beef without realizing it was battered, fried, and coated in sugar. Yuck. You're exactly right, not gaining is an accomplishment in itself. If I could have made not gaining happen two years ago, I would still be skinny and cute.

Can I just say... I had Panda Express only ONCE in my life. Last year. I was visiting a friend. I also ordered the beijing beef. I wasn't dieting at the time, so I didn't mind the poor quality. As a matter of fact, I think I peed my pants with delight when I took the first bite. I wish I had a Panda Express here. Or maybe I don't.

Panda Express, when I have spare cash, is a huge weakness for me. It's not great quality, but it is fast and convenient and delicious and I loooove it. I think they lace it with crack or something.
