Jillian04's Journal, 21 April 2011

I had to write a new journal for this new information I just found which makes complete sense. I read this medical article that says you should strive to lose 10% body weight at a time. Once you have lost that 10% you should maintain it for 6 months and then restart. Once you have maintained this weight for an extended period of time your body then "resets" itself or adjusts to that weight.
This article made a lot of sense to me with all the flucuations I see in my weight loss. So starting next week I'm going to start a maintence program.
First I am going to get back down to 128 after easter; then I will maintain that weight for a few weeks by eating 1200 calories (as I do now)- I add calories for what I burn off in exercise. Then I will slowly add calories 100 at a time for a few weeks until I reach my calorie goal to maintain 128 (around 1500). As long as I am maintain this weight through summer I will be happy and then sometime at the end to beginning of next year I can cut my calories back to 1200 to lose the last few pounds I was strving for if I still feel I need to lose them.
I plan on continuing my exercise during this time and watching what I eat and how much but I think this is the most realistic plan for me to keep it off.
Hopefully this works for me and I can stay happy with my body!

I've heard similar things before, especially regarding 'set points' and it makes total sense to me. I think this is a GREAT plan. It's nice because it also allows yourself to go into maintenance mode - which can be a very scary adjustment! It should be easier to switch into maintenance mode if you lose weight in chunks rather than all at once where it could potentially be easy to go up those last few pounds. Then once your body is super comfortable at 128 it should be easy to lose, and less frightening to maintain. Excellent goal, lady :)
