**I need some advice🚩🚩 for some reason I am TERRIFIED to step on the scale. Since I first started this new journey a month ago I have not been able to weigh in. I know the scale means little to none cliche but I need to weigh in to know what I’ve lost or and what is why I’m so worried what I’ve gained.

Since starting this new diet and fitness routine I have been very scared that if I gained instead of lost then I will get so devastated and discouraged going forward.
I don’t know what to do or how to go about taking this step.

It seems so silly but it’s paralyzing.

Do not be afraid :) get on that scale :) to find out if the things you do and eat are getting you to loose weight :) you will be fine - if the result is weight loss: great - keep on the good work - if the result might be weight gain: do not give up! Try to find out what you could do wrong - but reading you exercise and you diet your result will be fine - > you just get yourself on that scale :) Good luck

This also happened to me several times. I am however, happy to report that once I got over that fear and got on the scale I had more motivation to lose the the weight I had gained. good luck!

Thank you both so much for your advice. You are so right. Just do it and adjust from there!! Tomorrow I’m going to report back to what I found.

Good for you Charlie. You came to FS for support, but you need to be honest with yourself and have a mechanism for assessing whether your current lifestyle change program is working or not. If you find it isn’t, just adjust the program.. you haven’t failed, you just haven't found the right formula for you yet.

Hi Charlie! If in this moment u are not ready to use the scale it's ok. Maybe u can use another method to check ur progress. For example check yours measures. And maybe this method is more accurate because our weight changes even in the same day. Don't worry and enjoy the process :)

Measure hips, waist and right and left arms. Write that as a journal to measure progress. Do that first thing in the morning. I also use centimeters as it gives you a better measure for smaller changes.

Don't throw in the towel. Think of it as a challenge and don't let it get the best of you. My weight fluctuates up and down. Every day is a surprise, not always what I want or expect, but it keeps me in line. Sometimes scale drops and I'm baffled. I prefer to weigh every day, it keeps me on track. Some people prefer to only weigh once a week, if I did that, I know I'd cheat. If scale goes up I'm more conscientious about what I eat throughout the day. Don't be scared. Just keep on trying and don't give up.

I hate stepping on the scale, too...HOWEVER, I look at it this way: if I gain something, I figure out what I may be doing wrong, OR if I'm just building muscle. The thing is, every MOMENT of your life is a chance to start anew...you should NOT be "devastated" if you didn't lose as much as you think, you look at it from a logical standpoint and think through the issue like you would any other issue in your life. Try to step back from the emotional side and don't set super high expectations on yourself! I bet you would be MORE than pleasantly surprised in the long run!

maybe take measurements instead? the scale is a poor judge of health. mine says I'm 24% body fat and actually called me chubby. 😂😂

geez. read first. everyone already said measure. 🤦

I one HUNDRED percent relate to this. My scale goes untouched for weeks on end it feels like sometimes. In order to combat this I’ve been trying to pick a day a week where I go through with it. I’ve found routines seem to work best for me and help me stay motivated enough to keep doing it. And here’s a little thing I do that some might find insanely bad to do but I don’t care, every now and again I’ll weigh more than what I weighed last time, and I simply don’t record it here right away. I give myself a few days where I go hard on my diet and exercise and then keep reweighing myself until I get under the last recorded one and then record that value! That way it takes a bit of the pressure off of weighing myself because I don’t have to commit to that heavier weight being in my log right away, I do my have to admit that I “slipped up” and regained. It’s like having a secret just to yourself, that only you (and maybe your best friend who you rant to) know. I find that during those periods I’m more motivated than ever and I tend to lose more! Now these might not work for you, but I found they work for me, so I wanted to share them with you :) I don’t think I’ve met a single person who hasn’t hated the scale, but I’m trying to take what someone told me recently to heart. “Tools are meant to be utilized, not feared.” They said this in regards to math, but it applies everywhere in my opinion. You don’t hear of anyone being afraid of being given a pen instead of a pencil when they ask, because both are tools that can be used for the task at hand. I’ve taken to thinking of the scale as just another tool to aid me on my weight loss journey and that’s made it a bit easier to step onto it with every day that comes :)

i hate standing on my scale too, but if i see a number i don't like, it gives me more incentive to keep trying, if i see something lower, it also gives me a rewarding feeling and incentive to continue, you started this program to reach a goal, now continue yo reach it no matter what the number on the scale..

Thanks for sharing Charlie 👍 That is the great thing about this FS family...they have a LOT of support to give! And you never know who else will be helped by this thread and the responses. Now...go ahead...just have a pencil ready to jot down the number...and go ahead to get a reference weight so you can move ahead!💪💯✌

I say forget the scale! 😀 Focusing on your progress. That extra rep. The increased stamina and strength. Let those numbers motivate you for long enough and eventually stepping on the scale will no longer paralyze you...bcuz you will have seen so many improvements everywhere else. You are stronger than you can ever imagine. 💪 Good luck!
