Evie1010's Journal, 05 April 2011

Things have been eventful. Crazy Daisy has struck AGAIN! We were at the park walking the trails yesterday and two men gave our crazy pup just enough attention to make her holy-moley-HYPER. She took off in a flash and ran top speed towards my husband. Problem was - she did not slow down. She literally lunged into him - head first - her thick head against his knee - all backed by her muscled 50 pound body. Off his feet he went, writhing in pain on the grass and gravel. And he partly fell on her -- (serves her right!) But she is fine - only thing hurt was her pride. She was the most submissive and docile that I've ever seen her following that collision - I know she felt bad seeing that she'd hurt him. Anyhoo, like a trooper he tried to walk it off for about 20 minutes. Severe pain persisted and we went home to ice his knee and get it elevated. Rough night. Took him to the doc today and our hypothesis was correct. He's got torn ligaments and ruptured tendons. He will be hurting for some time that is for sure.

Following the doctor's appt today we went to Mexican restaurant we used to frequent frequentLY back in the day before Atkins. I have not been since starting this WoE. I was so pleased to pick out a few low-carb friendly options and to find how helpful they were to work with me regarding substitutions. Today I enjoyed one of their new specials - flank steak and a full chicken breast grilled to perfection, and I subbed the rice/beans for a good-sized house salad with guacamole and the flour tortillas for a serving of pico de gallo. It was excellente'!

Well, offa here for now. Gonna go nurse Jimbo for a while. Have an awesome day FS friends!! Love to all!

Hope your husband gets better soon. But that kind of accident will take a while. They are harder to heal than a broken bone. Take good care...Bren

Poor Daisy....she's probably got a headache tonight(and a heartache for having hurt Jim). And poor Jim, he's gonna be having that knee elevated and iced for quite a few days to come. Take care of both your patients!

Evie you painted a very good picture of what happened to Daisy and your husband and I am sorry to hear about the mishap and hope she calms down somewhat in the future so this kind of thing doesn't happen again as it is hard for all concerned. Good pics on the Mexican Dinner...Adios!!! TOWANDA!!!

@Bren, Hi "Brender", honey! You've got that right for sure. Plus it's been hurt before. Jim said it felt exactly the same way when he took a helmet to his kneecap back in highschool football days. He's really active, too - powerwalks daily and hikes regularly. So, I am sad that he's limping around so miserably right now...and unable to do what he loves. Hope he'll heal up quick and baby that knee for awhile. Thanks for your concern, friend.

@Stef, your prayers are appreciated so so very much, friend. Yes, she felt pretty bad that she damaged her pack leader. You should see her follow him and watch him anxiously when he is limping along gingerly. A few times she's gone up to him just so she can lick his hurt knee. I just hope she "gets it" that she is responsible - sure don't want this to happen again. When she was much smaller many months back she bounded into my shin when we were hiking. Gosh it hurt so bad - but I was fine. We're doing all sorts of obedience training with her but she just gets so hyper some times. Uggh! :/ Pray for Jim regarding his duties, especially tonight. He had to cancel two obligatory engagements yesterday and will perch himself up on a stool for teaching tonight.

@Sandy, thanks hon... You've got that right. I am definitely fulfilling my nursing duties, that is for sure. :) Daisy's such a hard head it did not phase her one bit. She is just as spry and energetic as she ever was. I find myself wishing her to "grow up" to be an adult two-year old sooner so she can leave her crazy antics for good.

@Lisa, thanks so much for your concern and for your affirmation on my excursion to the Mexican place. Love ya girl!

@thersmith, thanks for your well-wishes. No, I don't have an injury, but I'm sure you've read a thing or two on my journal about her rambunctious ways. It is possible that I posted an earlier journal about my nephew. She took off and he chased her and mildly sprained his ankle. Gosh, girl, we've had to keep the ice packs around! That's a good idea to get her to work more -- we do exercise her reguarly and vigorously which helps so much. She really is quite a marvelous pup when she has plenty of activity. Unfortunately I've been unable to run her the past two days due to Jim's injury. I am trying to do so much to stay on top of my work, the house and his needs since he's hurt. I've got to get her out for a long spell today or we'll both go nuts.

Thanks Laurie... Me too! How are things going for you hon?

Oh man, how terrible. Im sure the pup did feel terrible after. I don't think they understand their own strength compared to our lack thereof. Glad things weren't worse.

As the proud pup mother of to black labs, I've been in the same place as your husband. They get sooo excited and I find it hard to be upset with them because they are so apoligetic after it happens. Hope he feel better soon and prepare for this won't be the last time it happens.

@scrapinkathy, thanks for stopping by. You are so right about that. Daisy has been gingerly licking his knee and patting it with her paw. Have you sustained the same kind of knee injury from colliding with your pup?
07 Apr 11 by member: Evie1010
Not the dogs, but tripped over the silly cat and tore my miniscus (spelling?) I gained alot of my weight after that. I could hardly walk and just working was all I could do, exercise was out of the question and physical therapy was spotty. Since we got the puupy I have been knocked over but not hurt, thank goodness. I just can't imagine life without pets though.

ugggh! that is distressing.... Jim just got home from his third dr's appt. Bad news. The fluid build-up and swelling has left a nasty infection. The swelling has now expanded thru all parts of his leg. Very hot to the touch. He's been prescribed a heavy duty antibiotic.
07 Apr 11 by member: Evie1010
Uhg! thats terriable. He has to be in some major pain. how long do they want to keep him on the antibiotic before they see him again? my goodness did they drain the knee?
