I attempted an 8 mile jog this morning. I made 7 1/2 in an hour and a half and not all of it was jogging. There are a few things I need to address before next Saturday's long jog: timing, need to leave earlier. Route: today's was too hilly and in the sun, wondering if going backwards would help? Clothing issues: I now have an irritation area on my leg (which is why I quit early because it was becoming painful) Will wear longer shorts next week.
I made myself keep going even if it was walking for stretches at a time because the point is endurance. To get to 13.1 miles I have to keep going, even if I do walk part of it.

That's the right attitude. As long as you get there, it doesn't matter how you do it :) Great job on your 7.5 mile jog! Do you have a half-marathon planned? It's great that you're taking an inventory of how things went so that you can do even better next time.

Christy, I have registered for on October 19. The training plan that I use moves you up a mile (on the long runs) every two weeks. This was the first week for 8 miles so I will adjust for next week.

Fantastic!! You can do it! Once upon a time I ran a half - for the skin irritation area- try Bodyglide. It is seriously the best to help with chafing. No matter what clothing you wear- some chafing happens with distance running unless you use something on your skin. Again- way to go!!!

That's great! What's the longest race you've done so far?

Christy ~ The longest I have done so far is an 8.6 trail race, it was last October. Since then I have done a 5K and on the 23rd I am running in a 2 mile race.

Is the 8.6 miles or km? That's great that you participate in races :)

It was 8.6 miles and I count each and every step of the up and down that it was. I knew that I could run it, I just wasn't prepared for the extreme hills and uneven path. But it was a good experience for me.

Sounds great. The most I've walked or ran as an adult was 3.5 miles. Keep up what you're doing. It's impressive, and so good for you :)

I would try compression pants under your shorts. $22 on Amazon.

hay that is still a great start you tried it. I wear capri pants because I am heavier and I started sweating like crazy and I can't stand short shorts.
